WASHINGTON, D.C., March 9, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a 44-56 vote, the U.S. Senate has voted against a budget bill crafted by House Republicans that would have eliminated federal funding of Planned Parenthood.

The Democrat-led Senate also failed to pass its own budget bill, which contained much fewer spending cuts and maintained the abortion giant’s funding.

The vote marks the first stage of what promises to be a drawn-out battle between two opposite visions for the 2011 fiscal year, as well as between pro-life and pro-abortion forces fiercely gunning for or against the amendment de-funding Planned Parenthood.

President Obama has promised to veto the House version as it stands.

Completely expected. This is a lesson for those who expect the House GOP to attempt Large Things legislatively.

The Senate can and will vote down those things that endanger the Democrat platform, and Obama can veto anything that passes the Senate, without fear of being over-ridden.

That's politics.

“I’d be a little careful about pillorying Pence based on his generally pro-life record. It is normal parliamentary procedure for one member on each side to be designated to vote against their convictions as a device to bring it back for a vote should it become necessary....”
thanks for the info...just how does that work?

thank you for the information. since we are able to vote for seat that Stabenow occupies up here to.

Got rid of Bart Stupak replaced with Dr. Dan Benishek lots of conservatives are happy. even the dems are happy.

Just so you are aware Stupak has told the people of the UP he will run again, but has vowed to take some time off. Just hope Stabenow does not retire, than he might try to run. Just letting you know exchanging of the possible candidates for the regional politics

Exactly what I was thinking. What does the House do now and what authority do they have?

The primary authority they have, is that they control the bills that get sent over to the Senate. Where spending is concerned, the Senate can only vote on what the House sends them.

And thus, the contents and manner in which those bills get sent over, offer the possibility of fruitful strategies to frame the debate over various issues.

One thing the House can do, is to force the Senate to vote on sensible legislation, particularly those items related to the budget. This is essentially what Rep. Ryan was suggesting last week, with his "two weeks at a time" comment.

The House Republicans need to keep doing this. Come up with their own budget, no compromise, that cuts at least $100 billion, including all pet projects from all Senators.

If they don’t like it, send a new one cutting $150 billion and cut all pet projects from all rat congress critters.

If they don’t like that, keep cutting until they agree. Keep upping the ante, in terms of budget cuts.

This will serve two purposes: weakens the rats and expose the rinos in a way that they do not want.

Unbelievable. What else was in the bill? Why would DeMint cross over?

May God give us strength.

The bill to defund Planned Parenthood is CONGRESSMAN Mike Pence’s bill. He’s the main sponsor.

Parliamentary procedures are designed so the losing side can't delay things indefinitely by continuing to bring back defeated legislation for a vote.

Since, theoretically, nobody knows the outcome of a vote before it is taken, it is common for each side to designate a "Judas" so they have the opportunity to bring the legislation back should conditions change.

The designated "Judas" will generally admit to their role if asked directly. Sometimes, they will even go so far as to announce it in a press release. I believe John Kyl actually did this once when voting in favor of amnesty legislation which he really opposed.

Of course, given the inter-party fraternization and reaching across the aisle bullsh*t, it sometimes becomes difficult to tell when it is on the level and when it is just Kabuki theatrics.

Ok. Just got off the phone with DeMint’s office in D.C.

He voted not to defund because the rest of the bill was about setting the budget for the YEAR, and it only allowed for an approximately 4% cut.

The staffer said it is the GOP’s intention to continue to put the defunding in other bills.

I did ask if they considered a “death of a thousand cuts” for the Fed, in cutting whenever and wherever they can, and as he explained it, they could not do that once the bill today passed. That once it passed, they would have been unable to make further cuts.

Ever hear a democrat say “I am burned out on the Democrat Party”?

No, there’s never a underhanded POS a democRAT didn’t like.

Please do not give up. This is how the other side wins.

Thanks for the info. The DeMint, Lee and Paul votes are a surprise, no matter what their rationale is.
