What if Qaddafi Wins?
Commentary Magazine ^ | March 13,2011 | Michael J. Totten

Posted on 03/13/2011 3:54:35 PM PDT by Hojczyk

If something doesn’t change soon, Muammar Qaddafi will kill his way back into power over all Libya’s territory. His forces are retaking rebel positions. The opposition is crumbling. And it looks like the United States and Europe will stand back and just let it happen.

This isn’t the first time an Arab tyrant has made a startling comeback after an uprising nearly swept him away. Saddam Hussein lost control of most of Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War, but tens of thousands of dead bodies later, he was firmly and ruthlessly back in the saddle.

If the only Arab rulers to be deposed by revolution are the nominally pro-American “moderates,” while the mass-murdering state sponsors of terrorism hang on, change indeed will be coming to the Middle East and North Africa, but it won’t be the change we were hoping for. One thing, however, will not have changed an iota: the Middle East will be governed by violence just as it always has.

If the Caligula of North Africa survives by fighting to the death and prevailing, he will surely inspire the other hard rulers to take the same strategy, especially after the humiliating and mostly nonviolent defeats of Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak and Tunisia’s Ben Ali. The killers of the resistance bloc — Iran’s Islamic Republic, Bashar al-Assad’s Baath Party in Syria, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Hamas in Gaza — won’t likely be overthrown by peaceful demonstrations but by massive internally or externally driven wars.

Well if Daffi wins the UN can give him the human rights award they planned on giving him a few weeks ago.

The die is cast, he’s going to win, and nobody will have any credibility.

So? He will have earned a place on the Libyan equivalent of the penny and the five dollar bill. It has happened before.

He will face that which he fears more than death itself - the Dreaded Sanctions.

Unfortunately, the US had the opportunity, and I might mention, the moral authority, to take out Qadaffi and Hussein many years ago. Both had made violent attacks against the US and its citizens.

Going after Qadaffi now makes it appear that we are interfering in the internal policies of Libya. We should have taken both out years ago -- although it is never too late to finish the job.

Dems refused to live up to their responsibility years ago, and I don't expect that the current liberal president will take out Qadaffi now.

What if Qaddafi Wins?

What if he does? It means the Libyan people didn't want their freedom enough to fight for it and win.

"What if Quaddafi Wins?"

Yes. What if. We may be saved from something worse. At least with Quaddafi, we know if you punch him a couple times he comes around and plays ball. Who knows what kind of satanic Islamofascist scum would replace him?

Qadddifi will win. and he's very anti alqueda.

If you don't think alqueda is behind these uprisings, you're wearing rose colored glasses.

The Obama Effect: The unbroken string of Obama public endorsements and supporting statements which have resulted in a 100% failure rate (as of 2011-03-13) of the party endorsed.

Barry said Daffy had to go. Ergo, Daffy will successfully stay.

Totten’s not making much sense. Gaddafi made his peace with the West a decade ago. If Gaddafi is turfed, it’s a sign to anti-Western dictators everywhere that peace with the West is a chimera, a poisoned chalice.

Once he has re-solidified power I think he should promote himself from Colonel to General- and insist us Infidels call him "General Qaddafi". -Tom

Unless you are willing to send ground troops in to create new facts on the ground, one must learn to keep ones mouth shut. The rebellions in the Middle East are internal affairs of sovereign nations unless proven otherwise. Sticking your nose in is like jumping into a fight between a husband and wife. In the end both will hate you.
Every time something happens in the world the American elites are always itching to get involve in order to preserve American status as a super power. It must be something in our culture wanting to be a crusader or policemen in the world. That is something our founding fathers want us to refrain from.
As one of my church teachers pointed out, the Ten Commandments is a simple one page document, follow it and you will live well, deviate from it and you will live with turmoil. The US Constitution is a simple 13 page document and the founding fathers’ thoughts are equally simple. Follow it and our nation will live in peace and prosperity, deviate from it and we will live in constant turmoil. How many times have we acted emotionally in the Middle East and end up with a hornets nest at our doorstep that could have been avoided.

If Daffi wins, then he can get back to work on the UN Human Rights Council. He’s no worse than most of the other Council members. The UN will have to cancel the suspension.

Somehow, I think changing the name from UN Human Rights Committee to UN Human Rights Council failed to fix it.
