Environmental groups, including Friends of the Earth, have raised concerns that the pipeline could foul underground and surface water supplies, increase air pollution around refineries and harm wildlife. They also have speculated about what they consider inadequate pipeline safety and emergency spill responses…..

Supporters say the project could be a boon for U.S. jobs and energy production while strengthening a friendly source of oil.

TransCanada officials had previously predicted that a decision on the project would come by the end of 2010. The State Department's decision to issue a supplemental environmental report triggers a longer review process, so the Keystone XL project will be delayed further.

There will be no decision until 2012, and possible even, horrors of horrors, 2016.

The current administration is going to get its green policy in place via existing mechanisms and totally bypass the legislative process.

“Friends of the Earth = Enemies of Humans”

The real question is why Congress would give environmental groups veto power over vital national interests. The Democrats can just let these groups do their dirty work. Conservatives need to target laws that give environmental groups the power to obstruct.

I am sure they have not done environmental studies for the TAPI pipeline scheduled to run from Helmand thru Kandahar when the tribes provide a secure transit route.

The way they discovered oil at the Salt Creek Oil fields in Wyoming was that they saw it bubbling out of the ground. So when nature does it: no problem When we do it: bad.

Amazing to me the BS that is warned about this pipeline, as if we haven't used the same type of pipeline for decades all over the country.
