The nation's chief nuclear response team has deployed its experts to Japan to assess dangers posed by the nuclear crisis in the wake of the devastating magnitude 9 earthquake.

A team from the National Nuclear Security Administration, a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy that protects America's nuclear weapons, left from Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas on Monday, an NNSA spokesman confirmed to FoxNews.com

Though the article does not say, I imagine the team and equipment will be set up at a safe distance, and anyone getting close to the Nuke Plant probably have volunteered for the duty.

Additionally, if anyone should know the risks of exposure to radiation, these folks should...

I wonder what the REAC unit is doing...
from an article yesterday

http://www.oakridger.com/newsnow/x2011267790/Local-experts-ready-to-respond-to-nuclear-crisis-in-Japan

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — A local team of experts trained to respond to radiation emergencies is ready to travel overseas within six hours if Japanese officials ask for help as they struggle to control nuclear power plants damaged by Friday's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

''In these types of situations, we are always on standby,'' said Albert Wiley, director of the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site, or REAC/TS, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

The REAC/TS staff has been busy since the Friday earthquake and tsunami, which has left thousands of Japanese dead, missing, or homeless. Wiley said his staff has given advice to, and consulted with, private citizens, military personnel, the U.S. Department of Energy, and embassy representatives in the United States and Japan.

Amazing, a real leader would have had this team on the US base in Japan the day we realized there was an issue with a nuc plant.

Agreed. We just have USS Ronald Reagan offshore Japan, not Ronald Reagan himself.

I have toyed with the idea of bringing up impeachment of Obama based on his incompetence.

I don't think it should be pursued at this moment, but there are some intriguing aspects to pursuing impeachment.

Should he resign or it make it to the Senate, an impeachment might bear some sort of fruit.

With what an old, dingy person the current VP is, our Republican Speaker of the House could become VP - giving Republicans the tie breaking vote in the Senate.

And a very weird political move would be to appoint Sarah Palin as the replacement Congresswoman for the current speaker, and thus Sarah could be Speaker of the House.

It all depends if Boehner's state would allow a non-resident to hold the office for House of Representatives.

Some folks in his state would cheer, and some would hiss over such a move...

But it is just and interesting scenario.

Better if they had flown out Saturday, even without equipment, someone back home could have packed it up and sent it by a flight ready to go. It takes time for humans to arrive on scene with fellow humans.

I blame Obama the idiot child commander-boy for the delay. The delay will and has cost lives that could have been spared, imo.

I would imagine there’s a ton of the legendary Japanese red tape they had to cut through.
