House votes to strip funding for NPR
Washington Times ^ | 3-17-2011 | By Stephen Dinan

The Republican-dominated House on Thursday voted to block taxpayer funding for National Public Radio programming, dealing another blow to the broadcasting network that already is reeling from a yearlong series of missteps.

Though the bill is not likely to pass the Senate and the White House issued a statement opposing the bill, it marks another black eye for NPR, which saw its chief executive officer and its top fundraising executive resign earlier this month after being filmed denigrating conservatives and the tea party.

“We’ve see NPR and its programming often veer far from what Americans would like to see as far as the expenditure of their taxpayer dollars,” said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican. “Nobody is on a rampage; nobody is trying to say that we don’t like NPR for NPR’s sake. We’ve seen how they spend their money. It’s time to prioritize.”

Not really. Oh it plays to the crowd, sure. But it’s more “you stupid Tea Party people need to sit down and shut up”.

I don't care about the Senate or the White House, the House should make it stick. Put it in the conference bill, and if that doesn't pass, make the continuing resolutions one day or two days at a time with no NPR funding until a spending bill passes without NPR and PBS getting our tax dollars. If Obama wants to shut down the federal government over NPR's programming for the elite, he's welcome to go for it.

This is NOTHING! Boehner, Cantor and the GOP establishment are throwing us a bone because we are vocal with our frustration. They know this stand alone crap will never even get voted on in the Senate let alone make it to the White House for a veto.

Look for another token effort on defunding Planned Parenthood and removing the stealth funding for Obamacare ($125 billion).

Stand alone “get tough” token actions they know will mean NOTHING in the end.

Tie them into the continuing funding resolution and the 2012 budget and then I’ll believe they are trying. In the meantime, they are treating us as petulant and dim-witted children: “See, we tried to do it YOUR way and it failed!”

The establishment GOP thinks we are STUPID!

...I like your strategy Pollster1...god knows the Lib dems bury all kinds of riders in their bills...why shouldn’t we put a de-fund NPR rider in ours.

Today I have read the words of the leadership and what they truly think of us... I heard Rush Limbaugh quote one of the blue blood Hampton's republican elite and how they are embarrassed by us... how their wives despise us Christians. I really do not care what these lying ****ers do... it is all a game to them... it is life and death of a Nation to most of us little people rubes.

Why? Symbolism? There's a time and a place for symbolism. When your country and culture is on the brink of history is not the time to play footsie with the enemy, and hope your "constituents" don't notice.

This is for SHOW.

End the funding - which they CAN DO - not “vote to end, and suggest, and go to committee, and ...”

What a bunch of woosies.

Maybe they could ask Obama is they can have a bathroom break to go wee weee.

Agreed 100%.

They had a once per century message sent by the American citizens, and are asking permission to trim some fat.

This is not represntative government - they are NOT representing the wishes of the electorate.

They are willfully denying the wishes of the electorate.

Maybe the citizens should vote a “continueing resolution” on what we will pay in taxes. I would like to continue at 2003 levels.

“better that it was done, than not done at all”

To what effect!?! To make a token effort to silence us? WHAT they have done is an insult to every one of us who busted our rears volunteering to canvas neighborhoods, man phone banks, donate money, protest, attend rallies, man polling stations and assist the disabled and elderly to get to the polls.

WHAT they have done is LIE to us, use our energy and enthusiasm to regain the house so they could get back to business as usual.

THE EFFECT, my friend, will be lower trust, lower enthusiasm, lower motivation, lower volunteerism, lower donations and lower votes because they have ABUSED OUR TRUST!

If you are not insulted you are not paying attention!

It’ll never pass the Senate. It’s kabuki theater. If they were serious it would be in a budget bill, not separated out for PR effect.
