'Gadhafi Is Facing a Coalition of the Unwilling'
Der Spiegel ^ | 03/22/2011

Posted on 03/22/2011 7:36:52 PM PDT by 11th_VA

The coalition military operation against Moammar Gadhafi has made good progress toward its goals of destroying the Libyan dictator's air defenses and establishing a no-fly zone over the country. But that, it seems, was the easy part. Far more difficult are the questions of who should now lead the mission and what the operation's ultimate objectives should be.

The US government, wary of getting stuck in another war in a Muslim country, would like to hand control of the mission over to NATO, but the alliance is divided. At a meeting on Monday, NATO ambassadors failed to agree on whether the alliance should take control of the mission. NATO involvement would require approval by all 28 members.

"When the allied powers met on the third day of the operation against Gadhafi's regime, it wasn't a pretty sight: The unity of the first hours of the operation seems to have vanished. While the coalition's military forces send combat aircraft and cruise missiles against Libyan positions, the politicians have nothing better to do than to argue publicly about the meaning and purpose of the operation -- and about who should take over the leadership role."

At least they know one of the participants won't volunteer.

Since Obama has the ability to vote “present” down to a science, the rest of the participants will be scrambling to be the second one out the door.

I think this whole “President” thing is above Obama’s Pay Grade. Clueless wonder comes to mind.

Folks should keep in mind that most of the worst atrocities of the Balkans wars took place right under a NATO no-fly-zone.

Sorry, but the world needs a strong POTUS because it’s the US military that projects the critical power in the world.

When the POTUS is weak, nothing else can work well.

That is all.

It’s 3 am and nobody is answering the phone. Can’t believe our gov’t started launching bombs without a plan for who was going to be in charge. Say what you will about prior administrations, but I’ve never seen such hand-wringing in my lifetime.

Here’s what I think happened. Those professors have committee meetings, discuss nothing, arrive at no conclusions, never have to make a decision or DO anything real. So, they all got together and talked and then did something/ anything — and since Obama has absolutely NO real world experience, and since committee meetings do NOT accomplish anything, they are all in way over their heads.

duh, I know .... and I’m getting out my NO BLOOD FOR OIL signs and going to picket the White House. Isn’t dissent true patriotism or something?

What an idiot this little o is.

It’s not a war.

I don’t know what it is.

But Obama said it’s not a war.

TMc...might want to get up to speed on NATO’s Balkan’ history. NATO is and was complicit in the worst atrocities of the Balkans wars. There’s a lot that has been publicized about this travesty...check it out:

End the war quickly, turn it over to the French. They’ll agree to 50% occupation of France by Libyan troops. The Libyans can march down the shaded B’lvds of Paris and Ghadaffi can drive around and see the sights.
