A private funeral service will be held today for actress Elizabeth Taylor at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, the same location where her close friend Michael Jackson is interred.
Taylor died Wednesday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of congestive heart failure at age 79.
Taylor's children -- Michael and Christopher Wilding; Liza Todd and Maria Burton -- were with her at the hospital when she died, according to her publicist, Sally Morrison. The two-time Oscar-winning actress is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services, open only to friends and family, are expected to be held at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn.
Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz told KCAL9 that news of Taylor's funeral was sudden, but the department was on the scene to ensure it goes peacefully as media began descending on the cemetery.
"The Glendale Police Department and Forest Lawn have a great relationship and as you know, in past ceremonies and services we've had here at Forest Lawn, we've been very well prepared," Lorenz told the station.
He said he first began hearing rumors of a Taylor funeral at about 9 a.m., then met with Forest Lawn officials at 11 a.m.
"It will certainly tax our resources here but once again we've had a lot of large services here -- I think the most recent ones were the anniversary and the services for Michael Jackson -- we've been able to deal with it in the past. We're going to be able to deal with it again. We're ready to roll," he said.
It was unclear exactly where Taylor would be interred at the cemetery, or if she would be relatively close to Jackson, who died in June 2009 and is in the cemetery's Great Mausoleum.

MODS: Please remove!
In fact, I'd say jackson was trying to steal their thunder.
Breaking?????? What’s “breaking” about a dead person being buried?
That’s where I was buried. Nice place.
My grandpa is buried there. I went to visit recently. Unbeknownst to me, it was the anniversary of MJ’s death. I was there when the gates opened. “Wow” is all I have to say, the tourists were . . . interesting to watch.
That’s a beautiful cemetery. I attended 2 burials within the year, one in Costa Mesa and the other at FL Glendale.
You escaped?
Or did you pay extra for the coffin with Internet access?
Dude. Sorry about that. There are two interesting aspects of being a time traveler. First, it is that you get to witness your own death (usually, any way) and second, you can lose track of tense in your communication if you’re not careful.
I should have said, “That is where I WILL BE buried”.
Sorry...
I believe that Liz Taylor’s mother is interred at Forest Lawn. She’ll probably be buried next to her mother.
Most folks don’t realize that it’s a great place to visit with tons of beautiful artwork.
And I was looking forward to seeing drag queens beating on the saintly Westboro folks!
"You Brute...You Brute...You Vicious Brute...."
As I recall she converted to Judaism some years (decades) back and the practice in that religion is to be buried immediately. This also serves the dual purpose of avoiding an excessive media circus.
The news reports claim it’s the cemetery where her close friend Michael Jackson is buried.’ True enough, but what about being buried beside either Todd or Burton, the “love(s) of her life” and fathers each of one of her children? Is either buried there?’ In the big scheme of her life, MJ was a friend, however close, but never a spouse, much less father of any of her children.
“buried next to her mother.” Good idea inasmuch as it would be difficult to bury her next to her seven husbands.
A life of excess (”not that there’s anything wrong with that.”)
RIP
Yes, but by the time I’m buried there most of it has been sold off. They were also having a big sale, which is how I was able to afford it in the first place..
