Qaddafi's son: Airstrikes are "big mistake"

(CBS/AP) The son of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi accused Western powers on Sunday of making a "big mistake" by carrying out airstrikes against the country.

"One day you'll wake up and you will find out that you were supporting the wrong people," Saif al-Islam Qaddafi told ABC's "This Week."

His father vowed a "long war" after the U.S. and European militaries blasted his forces with airstrikes and more than 100 cruise missiles, hitting air defenses and at least two major air bases, and shaking the Libyan capital Tripoli with explosions and anti-aircraft fire.

The strikes gave immediate, if temporary, relief to the besieged rebel capital, Benghazi the eastern part of the country.

Saif said if the U.S. wanted to help the Libyan people, they should "liberate Benghazi from the militia and the terrorists."

"It was a big surprise that, finally, President Obama - we thought he's a good man and friend of the Arab world - is bombing Libya," Saif told "This Week" host Christiane Amanpour.

"One day you'll wake up and you will find out that you were supporting the wrong people," Saif al-Islam Qaddafi told ABC's "This Week."

They'll say anything to stay in power, but Saif's warning may prove to be accurate, as it's proving to be accurate in Egypt as well.

His brother was apparently killed by a missle in the last few days.

We're bombing Libya because we can do so with complete and total control.

We are working the edges of evrywhere in the middle east because we won't go to war with the one country we need to, and that;s Iran.

I thought the Iraq war was in order for us to have forward operating bases for a future war against Iran. If we would destroy the Iranian military and regime, much of the unsettled riots in the other ME states would stop. So too would the arms flow to Hammas. The North Koreans would have less buyers of harware.

During a break from the fighting, Abu Sultan explained that he is no stranger to bloody battles. He traveled to Iraq in 2003, incensed by the U.S.-led invasion. His brother Hassan blew himself up near a U.S. Marine vehicle, killing the Americans. Abu Sultan called home to tell his mother, and Hassan was celebrated as a martyr in the eastern Libyan city of Ajdabiya. Another brother, Abu Sultan said, has become a top commander of al-Qaeda, and is based in Afghanistan.

Yes, so we’ve turned a chastened enemy who was cooperating with us and had given up their WMD programs following 9/11 into a desperate house bent on revenge.

That's exactly what we did and continue to do!

I thought the Iraq war was in order for us to have forward operating bases for a future war against Iran.

Iran wasn't the reason for the Iraq war as we had good reasons to go there. However, I do believe it was part of President Bush's long range goal. Remember the Axis of Evil? We had them surrounded.

Iran surrounded

With the DNC and their propaganda arm, the ENEMEDIA, pounding their fists and jumping up and down 24/7 against the war, while giving Cindy Shehan and Code Pink super star status he was pretty well stymied. Then of course the so-called republicans, led by Juan MeInsane and libertarians led by the nut job, Ron Paul, jumped on the band wagon and everything came to a screeching halt.

We are fighting the wrong people.

I don't think there is a right side in the Middle East.
I think we should clean up all of the mullahs that are inciting the hatred and violence for their own aggrandizement. The people of the Middle East are the ones paying the highest price for this worldwide jihad.

He is right as are you, we are suporting people without knowing what they are really up to, just as we were helping the muslims in Kosovo without understanding the unintended consequenses, no chess players in the WH right now for sure

We’re about as nimble and informed in the Middle East as the Jolly Green Giant with a blindfold. We’re ascribing western sensibilities and yearnings to a culture vastly different from our own; one whose guiding principle is submission, not liberty. As in Egypt, we shall soon find that the devil we knew was far better than the one we will meet.

I think we all have a rude awakening coming here in America. There is something WRONG here! Everyone knows it but they just can’t seem to pin it down. Obama and Hilary’s sudden need to murder Qadafi is simply unexplainable. I just can’t believe they are doing this out of pure stupidity.

We have allowed an enemy much more dangerous than Qadafi to take over the highest office of our government. It’s past time our Congress gets to work and finds some answers before it’s too late for us as a nation.

One day Saif is going to “wake up” dead, like his brother, and Saddams’ two killer sons. It comes with the territory, like a cruise missile.

Hey Said, “look out your window”.

In Libya, we want to take out an evil dictator, but his replacement will only be worse.

I have a few honest questions: What is the difference between this and Iraq? WMDs?

Do you still think invading Iraq was a good idea? Should we pull out?

For that matter, was invading Afghanistan a good idea? Should we pull out?

Thanks in advance.
