Pentagon: US-Led Strikes Help Libyan Rebels Retake City

WASHINGTON - A barrage of U.S.-led airstrikes opened the door for Libyan rebels to retake the eastern city of Ajdabiya Saturday, handing President Barack Obama a tangible example of progress as he defends the military action to war-weary Americans.

The administration has been under pressure to better explain why the U.S. was embroiling itself in another Muslim conflict and to clarify what America's continuing role will be as it begins to turn control of the week-old operation over to NATO.

Obama cited "significant success" in the war Saturday, and he and others defended the U.S. intervention as lawful and critical to save thousands of lives and stabilize a strategically vital region in the Middle East.

"The United States should not and cannot intervene every time there's a crisis somewhere in the world," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday. But with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi threatening "a bloodbath that could destabilize an entire region ... it's in our national interest to act. And it's our responsibility. This is one of those times."

And Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the events in the Middle East could be "the most important geostrategic shift since the fall of the Berlin Wall."

An image from Ezra Pound's Cantos comes to mind, the one about men with "collars and bow ties around their a@#$#s" spewing "sh#$%%$#$" from their holes all over the place. Don't recall which Canto, though. Start of the "hell" series.

Obama is just handing them the middle east. We are Al Qaeda airforce. The same people who kill our troops in other parts of the world and we supply air support to them in Lybia.
We are in some F@@@-ed up S*** now.

Just that “Muslim Outreach” he’s been talking about for several years now. Is NASA building them MIRVed nuclear missiles yet?

Recipe for level playing field: 1. Let Iran get the bomb. 2. Let Pakistan go radical. 3. Let them proliferate nukes and radicalism like crazy. 4. Sing We’ll Meet Again, as they did at end of Dr. Strangelove. 5. When fallout clears, playing field will be level, players dead.

When do we give AQ a couple of full equipped aircraft carriers. We can rename them “obummer” and the other one “benedict gates”.

“And Massachusetts Democrat Sen. John Kerry...said the events in the Middle East could be “the most important geostrategic shift since the fall of the Berlin Wall.”

Nice hyperbole there, Johnny boy.

BTW, didn’t Kerry serve in Vietnam? I’m *sure* I’ve heard him mention that once or twice...

Does the USA care whether or not the Libyan "rebels" are supported by al-Qaeda? What do we know about the rebels? Will they make a better government, or is this a "king of the hill" battle where the winner replaces the corrupt government with its own corrupt government after going through the motions that it's a "democracy?"

How can he talk about “success” and “progress” when no mission has been defined? Ostensibly this is about protecting “innocents”. If so, then how is assisting rebels in taking a town progress toward that goal? All he has done is take sides in a civil war which was none of our business to begin with. How can anyone possibly defend this action?

“Air strikes” equate to enforcing a no-fly zone or is it in truth, a policy of regime change that does? =.=

Just me—but I seem to recall this same Pentagon conducted a dog and pony show of a survey constructed to prove their CIC
was spot on with his sodomy in the ranks plan for our Military.my point is Our Government -including the politicians deployed to the Pentagon by its actions over a long period of time has proven irrelevant and not to be trusted beyond any independent and verified via multiple independent sources. In other words I ask is the Pentagon doing with this act of war against Libya —exactly as it did with gays in the Military?

Why won't the media identify the rebels? Answer: it is not in the interests of Obama to do so. Conclusion: rebels are connected or perhaps run by some bad Muslim group (pick one, most are).

So in stark contrast to Jefferson, Reagan, and Bush, who authorized strikes on bad-acting Muzzies, Obama is actually supporting Muslim terrorists with US air power. It's the most treasonous thing I've seen him do yet. And yet it won't be, by the time he's done.

We are in deep trouble, friends. A President who does this is liable to do anything.

You know, of course, that these al-Qaeda rebels will confiscate shoulder fired missiles to be used against American airliners.

Are the rebels really al Qaeda? I know they aren’t freedom fighters. I am just curious.

They are supported by the Muslim Botherhood.....if they are not al Qaeda they are certianly fellow travelers.
They are not “freedom fighters”. They will merely put in another dicator to replace the one there right now. And that tyrant will be a hard line Islamic.
And the world will be a better place{ hahahahahahaha}
