France-Comoros relations boosted, as countries reach pact -- The Consular section of the Embassy of France in Moroni will resume normal operations on Monday, following the agreement reached Friday between France and the Comoros. In a statement, the Embassy of France to the Union of Comoros said it 'welcomes the balanced agreement that was signed with the Comoran authorities, to put an end to a period of tension which is detrimental to both countries and their populations'. 'France confirms its determination to meet commitments in this agreement and has no doubt that the Comoran authorities will also be intent on respecting theirs,' the statement said.
It underscored 'a shared determination between Paris and Moroni to favor a frank and constructive dialogue, capable of preventing the renewal of such unnecessary and counter-productive tensions '.
The relations between the two countries deteriorated following a decision by the Comoran government to no longer receive people expelled from Mayotte without Comoran identification.
France had responded to the decision by suspending the issuance of visas to all Comorans.
