Obama says little short-term help for gas prices

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (AP) -- Pitching the promise of energy independence, President Barack Obama cautioned Wednesday that it's going to be tough to transition from America's oil-dependent economy and acknowledged there's little he can do to lower gas prices over the short term.

"I'm just going to be honest with you. There's not much we can do next week or two weeks from now," the president told workers at a wind turbine plant. It's a theme Obama's struck before as he tries to show voters he's attuned to a top economic concern with gas prices pushing toward $4 a gallon.

Obama said he wants to move toward "a future where America is less dependent on foreign oil, more reliant on clean energy produced by workers like you." That will happen by reducing oil imports, tapping domestic energy sources and shifting the nation to renewable and less polluting sources of energy, such as wind, the president says. He has set a goal of reducing oil imports by one-third by 2025.

But the president said it won't happen overnight and if any politician says it's easy, "they're not telling the truth."

"Gas prices? They're going to still fluctuate until we can start making these broader changes, and that's going to take a couple of years to have serious effect," Obama said.

"If you're complaining about the price of gas and you're only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know," Obama said laughingly. "You might want to think about a trade-in."

Can you believe the nerve of this guy?

FUBO. What America really needs right now is a short-term “president” in the White House.

This issue helped bring down John McCain as it contributed to public disgust with Bush II’s reign.

With a “Let them eat cake” attitude like this, the Marxist Muslim will not be re-elected. Even his own closest supporters will turn on him.

Reasonably priced gasoline is esential to the survival of the American economy and social structure and he offers NOTHING to help alleviate the current rise in prices.

My car gets over 40 mpg and I’m complaining about the price of gas Mr. President. I live in a rural area and unfortunately must drive a great deal. I assume his response would be to move to a place that had public transportation. That is what is great about being a liberal, your solutions to problems can make no sense, you will seldom get called out on it, and when you do just answer another question from the press that loves you.

What business of his is it as to how much mileage I get.

I'm saying the price of gas is high due to his failed policies. Doesn't matter if I'm getting 10 mpg or 100 mpg. His policies cause artificially high gas prices.

He's saying it's my responsibility to deal with the pain, not his to be more responsible.

I just showed my car a picture of Obama and it started getting better mileage. I showed his picture to the gas pump and the price dropped by a dollar.

The “trade-in” is the Muslim Messiah aka Wannabe Dictator. I doubt that there is anyone who would want the lemon.

Democrats have been *calling* for $5/gal or more gas for over a decade. In their perverse mindset, Americans have to be forced and coerced to doing things the Democrat way.

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.” — Obama

“The one thing we fail to talk about is those costs that you don’t see on the bottom line. That is coal makes us sick, oil makes us sick; it’s global warming. It’s ruining our country, it’s ruining our world. We’ve got to stop using fossil fuel.” — Harry Reid

The “long term” help is that soon you won’t even be able to afford the car.
