Petraeus Misfires on Quran Burning (Verbal Spanking Alert)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 4/7/2011 | Dorothy Rabinowitz

Posted on 04/07/2011 1:26:17 PM PDT by mojito

It must have come as a disappointment to the mullahs of Mazar-e-Sharif—who sent the faithful out on Friday with instructions to avenge the recent insult to the Quran—and to the mobs who consequently went forth to slaughter 12 people at U.N. headquarters, nine more in Kandahar the next day, and two more the next, that their bloody enterprise had counted for so little in the eyes of Western military leaders.

So it would appear at least from the response by Gen. David Petraeus, who delivered an impassioned rebuke of a publicity-hungry Florida pastor who had presided over the mock trial and burning of a Quran on March 20. This act was, the general declared in a video statement over the weekend, "hateful, extremely disrespectful, and enormously intolerant." It had endangered American troops. He wanted, he announced, to condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

No one listening could doubt it. The general would go on to say more, but nowhere in any of that condemnation was it possible to find a mention of the merciless savagery that had taken place in the name of devotion to God and the Quran. Mark Sedwill, the NATO senior civilian representative who joined Gen. Petraeus in the statement, did manage to find a moment to murmur in passing that, of course, condolences were due to "everyone who has been hurt in the demonstrations."

It's hard to conceive of a pronouncement richer in evasions of brutal reality than this one, with its references to people "hurt'' in "demonstrations." The participants in these "demonstrations"—a nice touch, that, suggestive of marchers, perhaps carrying placards—had in fact hunted down and killed, by shooting, stabbing and beating to death a total of 22 people by the end of the third day's expression of religious devotion.

Petraeus sounds more like a politician eager to please the WH than a soldier.

Petraeus. From his ignorance of the Constitutional rights he should be fighting for - from his Bible burnings to appease the muzzies - and from his acceptance of gays in this military - leaves him looking like an idiotic Obammie stooge.

Eff him.

General Petraeus has forgotten one of the main reasons his men and women are prosecuting the war. If freedom of speech and freedom of religion aren’t big enough reasons to maintain his attention, he should resign.

I won’t question Petraeus’ sincerity here. I am sure he makes these statements out of a concern for the troops and other Americans who have to deal with these savages when they riot.

Having said that, it really lowers my opinion of his intelligence. Most of these riots are whipped up for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with a Koran burning. Local warlords and mullahs are showing their muscle, pure and simple. The Koran burning is an excuse. Petraeus should understand that. They would riot for another reason if the Koran wasn’t burned.

And, of course, he’s teaching these savages that if they riot, America will bend to their will. Just like paying off hostage takers, this is not a way, ultimately, to keep the troops safe.

Petraeus supported the end of Don't Ask Don't Tell? He advocates open homosexuality in the military?

Wow! If that is so, then he is part of a move to deliverately weaken our military forces.

As for burning Korans, General Petraeus -- pay attention and use your brain. It the OPPOSITE of "hateful, extremely disrespectful, and enormously intolerant." It is the very embodiment of being loving, respectful, tolerant and civil in how free American citizens communicate to the aggressivly Islamic movement worming its way into our beautiful and successful Western Civilization that we do now and will always REJECT ISLAM because it is the antithesis of freedom.

Murdering people, sawing off their heads, driving passenger planes into skyscrapers filled with thousands of people -- THAT is hateful, disrespectful, and intolerant, General Petraeus. Good grief, I feel sorry for the brave Americans who have to serve under you -- I would think they hold you in some strong contempt.

To quote a line from A Few Good Men:

"I can't believe they let you wear a uniform."

This reminds me of how McCarthur and Nimitz lashed out at American Citizens that made fun of Hirohito's divinity.

Oh wait, that never happened.

I don’t recall reading anyplace that Petraeus has come out in favor of “Don’t ask don’t tell” repeal. He might have. I just don’t recall seeing it, and that would have gotten my attention had I seen it.

Coming out in support of DADT repeal is different that saying “I will carry out the orders of the President in this matter.”

It is any surprise this Obama butt-buddy is being considered for the CIA director? He’s no soldier. He’s a politician.

Someone needs to explain to the good General his troops are already at risk of their lives. They’re in, like, a WAR. Dude.

.
Wake up world — these wild dogs(Muslims) have been rioting ever since they were allowed into the West and will continue to do so until they are expelled.

It will only get worse unless our congress critters grow some spine and read them the riot act instead of kissing their a$$es. We are being blackmailed by Islam.

If burning a book (also known as free speech) warrants more rebuke than slaughtering 22 people, we have entered the Twilight Zone.

If he was really worried about the safety of the troops he would change the ROE so they could more readily defend themselves and kill terrorists. There have been more troops killed in Afghanistan since Bozo took over then in the time Bush had control. Therefore they are not worried about the troops, they are worried about being PC. Patraeus is just another PC coward.
