A Greenacres motorcyclist died Wednesday evening after doing a wheelie on Military Trail and then crashing into a median, authorities said.

Fabio Garcia, 28, was driving northbound on a 2009 Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle around 6 p.m. when he lifted the bike into a wheelie, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office traffic report.

A couple of years ago I watched a guy who obviously had no idea what he was doing try a pull a wheely on the street where I lived. He had one of those beastly rice burners and he yanked back on the throttle and the bike reared back and slammed him to the pavement.....sorry to say I had a hard time stopping laughing but stupid is sometimes funny.

I rode competitive off-road enduros back in the 80’s. Wheelies have a functional purpose in motorcycling. Showing-off is not one of them.

I was on the interstate going 70 mph one night and a guy PASSED ME UP doing a wheelie. SOme crotch rocket bike. I changed lanes to avoid running over his body if he fell. Insane.

after doing a wheelie ... and then crashing into a median

A friend of mine did exactly the same thing. Ended up in a coma for six months. Never was the same afterward. And wheelies seem like such harmless fun -- until the bike gets away from you.

Florida is a weird place. I was there working and had seen quite a few crotch rocket riders doing 80-100 MPH on the toll roads with no helmet or much else in the way of protective gear (leathers and boots)

I wanted to ask some of these flip flop, hot pants, wife beater wearing diptards if they knew how stupid they look on that bike with no helmet.

I hope someone got a good replacemet liver from this poor fool.

Yeah, THAT must why.

And, the other 70% aren't donors because of what, a billboard? Maybe an episode of Quincy?

probably had bike for less than six months.

probably did not have license for motorcycles.

if he had a helmet it would have been a full face which has no neck standards and is only rated to 13.4 mph. (per FMVSS 218 which is the standard motorcycle helmet makers have to use to certify their helmets as DOT compliant.)

Then again the helmet could have rolled off or was stolen after the fact.

But isn’t this illegal, proving once again that common sense can’t be legislated? I occasionally see them in the passing lane on the interstate doing a wheelie with no helmet.

These Hollywood shows such as Jackass make money for the promoters by pouring gasoline on a fire of stupidity and juicing Darwin’s theory of natural selection.

The shame of it is that it is somebody’s kid, sibling or daddy.

Those biks have so much power (to weight) that they are hard to control let alone control a wheelie. They are about as close to an F1 race car as you can get.

Ya, I pulled a wheelie on my dads honda 90 trail about 40+ years ago. Was showing off for some girls and the bike went up and over as I tried to catch the bike. Last wheelie I ever tried.

reckless driving is illegal or against the law in FL. They also have enhancement penalties for going over 25 (30?) mph over the speed limit. (highway speed is posted at 70mph)
