Washington (CNN) Though Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe hasn't drawn a Democratic challenger yet, she's plenty prepared for a re-election battle. According to fundraising numbers for the first quarter released Monday, Maine's third term senator has over $2 million in cash on hand.
Snowe raised $877,019 in the first quarter of 2011 and spent $62,433 on her 2012 U.S. Senate campaign. She will report $2,050,053 in cash on hand 17 months before the Senate election, according to numbers released by her office.
Snowe for Senate Treasurer Rick Bennett said, "It's a good start for her campaign fundraising effort. The total raised really signals how seriously committed she is and her supporters are to this race."
"The campaign needs to be prepared to tackle any challenges," he continued.

Why would the Democrats need to bother putting up a candidate??
Why do people donate to other people who in turn tax the hell out of us?
Great point, the Maine Twins vote along Democratic lines more than half the time and every social issue, they are best buds with Boxer and Schumer.
Lugar, Hatch, Snowe, Collins, McCain, Graham, Brown, Kirk...
I say, starve the GOP.
My goodness. How did we come to this?
I just can’t see George Washington schmoozing with donors for a multi-million dollar campaign.
Shame on us.
On the other hand, I can see Stalin shaking down contributors to make the Worker’s Paradise...
Shame on the Proletariat.

Thanks for the post. She’s my senator. I’m definately voting Tea Party. I just have to know which one is best on the issues and which one has the best chance.
Cerially? Why?

Just look to Florida my friend. The proper candidate will be obvious in message of principles, not their proported chances of winning. I saw Marco Rubio for the first time more than 18 months before the 2010 elections. Nobody gave him a chance, especially the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) which endorsed Crist.
Its all about principles, not pedigre (no inference intended).
She needs a very strong challenge from a tea party person.
It's also going to be critical to keep the legislature Republican in Maine, and not that easy, either.
