State Republicans try to block future walkouts

Remember the five-week walkout by House Democrats earlier this year? Indiana Republicans are now trying to make sure it doesn't happen again with a so-called "anti-bolting" law.

Republicans voted 36-0 to pass a provision preventing the minority from ever again walking out and stopping business in the legislature.

For more than 30 days Democrats stood their ground in Urbana, Illinois — boycotting what they called "radical

"We took an extreme agenda of the republican majority and we slowed it down quite a bit," says Representative David Niezgodski, D-South Bend.

While Democrats caucused in Illinois, the House chamber was half empty — frozen because it lacked a quorum — the two-thirds majority required to do business.

"When they walked out for five weeks, the public was concerned and extremely upset," says Senator Joe Zakas, R-Granger.

That is why Republican senators have proposed the provision. It would allow a citizen who resides in a legislator's district to sue them if they hold up the legislature from doing its business for more than 3 days. It also would fine absent lawmakers $1,000 a day.

More power to them. The “We had no other alternative” excuse is a cowardly and unacceptable one. Buck up, accept things as they are - not as you’d like them to be, and get on with the People’s business.

Why block it? Let them walk out, and then hand them a pink slip when they do. No if’s, and’s or but’s. Simple as that. Problem fixed.

If you walked off your REAL job you get fired. Why should these lib scumbags be treated any differently?

"For more than 30 days Democrats stood their ground in Urbana, Illinois..."

So hauling a$$ over the state line to avoid doing their jobs is now "standing their ground"?

Epic fail, Kristin.

Only to the liberal media can people “stand their ground” by FLEEING their ground. Incredible...but typical.

Epic 'liberal logic'.

"We're going to stand our ground. Alright everybody, run like hell!"

You are kidding right? The political class have become Royalty, since the English Royals have clearly their collective minds, someone has to be ready.
