The California Senate passed a bill that would require all state public schools to teach the history of the gay civil rights movement and the contributions of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
The bill passed the Democratic-majority Senate by a 23-14 vote, along party lines. Mario Guerrero, government affairs director at Equality California, an LGBT lobbying organization, said his organization expect the bill to move to the state Assembly sometime in June, where it will likely pass. Democrats outnumber Republicans in the Assembly, 52-27.
A similar measure in 2006 was passed by the legislature, but vetoed by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The state currently has laws on the books that require the teaching of women's, black, American Indian, Mexican, Asian, and Pacific Islander history with regard to the social, political, and economic development of the state.
Guerrero says the bill is about teaching students an accurate version of history, not about advancing an agenda.
"When folks say 'gay history,' I think there's people who think we want to force ourselves on the broader community," he says. "You have a whole civil rights movement that is factit's happening now. By omitting this information, we're essentially not providing accurate, fair, or inclusive history."
Officials at Equality California believe the bill will help keep young members of the LGBT community from being bullied.
"Educating youth about the contributions of LGBT Californians and our state's rich diversity will help foster true acceptance of LGBT students and will ultimately create a safe school environment for all students," Geoff Kors, the organization's executive director, said in a statement.
The bill would also prohibit schools from endorsing an event that discriminates, and prohibit the adoption of discriminatory instructional materials.
California has a money-saving measure in place that prevents the adoption of any new curricula until the 2013-2014 school year, so that's the earliest the law could go into effect if passed.
This will up the numbers of native Californians fleeing the state in droves. Next stop, Turdworldville!
It isn’t just California. The sodomoites want to be able to be in all government schools, openly evangelizing for their lifestyle.
Are they going to cover AIDS?
How about all the other filthy diseases involved in abberant sex practises?
I’m beginning to think that pure Democracy is a bad form of government. It degenerates into a kind of “leveling” philosophy where everything and anything is tolerated with no prejudice towards foul and evil customs and practises.
But then the Founding Fathers never envisioned a “pure” democracy of the kind which currently afflicts us.
Will the text books include an accurate account of the Weimar Republic?
Just one more reason my son is in a private Christian school...
I hate to admit this but I have given up with California. They can do whatever they want so long as they don’t ask me (other Americans) to bail them out.
They support every liberal desire and as a result their schools are awful (see above), their government is broke and business are fleeing the state (5 per week!).
Maybe they will figure it out, maybe they won’t but I candidly don’t care.

CALIFORNIA. You are broke and upside down and you are worrying about groin and gingy issues??
CALIFORNIA. You are broke and upside down and you are worrying about groin and gingy issues??
1. Its not “gay” history, its HOMOSEXUAL history.
2. I am all for it. Teach that for centuries it was a crime in almost every society on earth. Teach that it is recognized as sin by most major religions on the planet to this day. Teach that it leads to disease and death.
3. Then teach that a small violently vocal group are forcing it (homosexuality) to be considered normal.
My guess is they’re not going to teach what you say they should teach.
Unfortunately, this won’t just affect California. As large a market as this is for the textbook industry, it sets a standard that is also used in other states. The perversion will seep out.
