Pakistan: We didn't know bin Laden was here (BS! Someone knew!)

Pakistan's leader denied suggestions his country's security forces may have sheltered Osama bin Laden before he was killed by American forces, even as Britain said Tuesday it would be demanding answers from Islamabad as to how the al Qaeda chief was able to live undetected in a large house in a garrison town.

But in a nod to the complex realities of dealing with a nuclear-armed, unstable country that is crucial to success in neighboring Afghanistan, British Prime Minister David Cameroon said having "a massive row" with Islamabad over the issue would not be in Britain's interest.

Nor would it be in the interest of the United States government, as evidenced Tuesday with a joint news conference and show of solidarity in Islamabad by Pakistan's top diplomat alongside senior colleagues from both the U.S. and Afghanistan.

Asif Ali Zardari's comments in a Washington Post opinion piece Monday were Pakistan's first formal response to the suspicions by U.S. lawmakers and other critics, which could further sour relations between Islamabad and its Western backers at a key point in the war in Afghanistan.

No, it just confirms what reasonable people knew since the beginning. The relationship cannot "further sour" if it became hard cheese long ago.

They are feeding us a batch of horse dung ad we are eating it up.

Of course they knew where Bin Ladin was. They are lying.

In the meantime we are still sending them money.Money we don’t have.

What kind of crap is it when we allow them to come up after the fact and say they helped in the mission when all the time we know they were sheltering this murderer? When they lie to us openly and we bow and agree to the lie.

Musharraf is a lying sack of crap, but then so is Obama, so they probably get along just fine.

On another thread it was said Usama was on ice, under house arrest in effect.

Having rolled that over, I can believe that is the case. He had no security because he was under protection.

To have him under publicized Pakistani control is an insoluble problem. If known, both sides would tear the government apart because their will is not met. Therefore, as the FReeper posted, keep him on ice out of sight, out of mind (in a guilded cage).

The thought is not absolutely conclusive but it makes more sense than any other I have seen to date

It also means that Obama made the hit for his own political advantage.

Lets see 800 yards from their West Point, inn a house 8 times the size around it with 18 foot security.

Former head of ISI lived on the same block after he retired.

No they are dumb as a rock or we are sending them billions.

The idea that Islamists would have somehow tear Pakistan apart if they found that Osama or his ilk were under arrest/killed/tortured is vapourware. The Pakistani state is far far stronger than what most people think with not one Islamic group being able to remotely challenge the Army. Pakistan has killed Islamists and separatists long before 9/11 if they threatened its interests.

For years the former head of the CIA’s bint Ladin unit, Dr. Scheuerer (spelling?), has been saying that UBL was living in a mansion in Pakistan. I suspect we have been pretty certain where he was but were only recently able to confirm it when the courier forgot to turn off his cell phone and made a phone call from the compound.

If we knew, the Pakistanis had to know.

After everything I read yesterday, I believe you are right. He was technically under House Arrest and was going to be used by the Pakistani Government as the final trump card to keep the money flowing in.
The Paki Government probably had no clue we knew because if they had any idea then they would have probably took Bin Laden out to the mountains, put a bullet in his head and said “look at what we got. See we are allies”.
