RICHMOND Gov. Bob McDonnell is clipping Big Bird's wings.
McDonnell has used his line-item veto authority to cut state funding for public broadcasting, calling it a smart, practical budgeting decision to make Virginia government smaller and more efficient and save taxpayer dollars.
McDonnells veto will reduce the funding that lawmakers had approved for educational programming and radio reading services by $424,000, or about 16 percent, in the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Ditto that one!!! 100% slash would be more like it. 16% meh, nothin.
It’s always about Big Bird, isn’t it.
Gov. Haley talked about killing off public TV here in SC and I guess it is still in the plan.
Good for her. No need for NPR or PBS, huge waste of money.
Big Bird is a billionaire. No need for any subsidies.
Please take a moment to THANK Gov. McDonnell for cutting PBS funding....

According to what sources I have left there, there is a lot of real concern that Nikki will try to pull the trigger. SCETV has dodged a lot of bullets over the decades but with the economy and technology, it is a relic.
Like so many other things we waste our tax dollars on they all need to be gone over and dumped if they don’t work or have become useless, like NPR and PBS. I’m really sick of, when a program doesn’t work or is being abused as in the case of NPR and PBS, they either throw more money at it, in hopes it’ll fix it or refuse to defund it because it’s a pet.
