The CIA director said he believes Moammar Gadhafi survived a NATO airstrike that reduced much of the Libyan leader's family compound to rubble.
Gadhafi has not been seen in public since Saturday's attack, which Libyan officials said killed one of his sons and three grandchildren. Gadhafi was in the building, but survived, Libyan officials have said, providing no details.
Asked about Gadhafi's fate since the air strike, CIA director Leon Panetta told the U.S. TV network NBC on Tuesday that "the best intelligence we have is that he's still alive."
Libya's deputy foreign minister, Khaled Kaim, said Gadhafi met with tribal leaders on Tuesday. Gadhafi, Libya's ruler for 42 years, has appeared in public only infrequently since an armed uprising against him erupted in February.
Kaim, meanwhile, refused to praise or condemn the U.S. action that killed terror mastermind Osama bin Laden earlier this week in a hideout in Pakistan. The Libyan official would only say that his country has long fought against bin Laden's al-Qaida terror network.

It’s like playing Whack A Mole with this guy.
In this case obummer committed murder of those young children, when will the UN file charges at the Hague.
In this case obummer committed murder of those young children, when will the UN file charges at the Hague.
And the Pom-Pom Media seem to just fine with this collateral damage since it was on their boy's watch.
That's all we heard from the liberal MSM during the Bush years, "innocent women and children are being murdered".
This reminds me of the Finno-Russian War, where our sympathies were totally divided. The Finns were allied with the Nazis against the Russians, but the U.S. never declared war on or fought against Finland. When the Nazis were fighting the Russians, it’s almost too bad we had to pick a side before there was only one man standing. Of course, if we had been too coy, the Russians and Germans would have made [a temporary] peace. There is no way Normandy could have happened if the Russians did not tie up the bulk or the Wehrmacht in the east.
Meanwhile, we don’t know who dropped the bomb. Nato? come on . Who did it?
I know, I know... but it’s still sort of funny.
Khadaffy freaked when the soldiers pulled Saddam out of the spider hole in Iraq, bombs are falling all over, and no he’s heard that the SEALs went in and dusted bin Laden.
He must be pissing his lacy unmentionables five times daily.
Khadaffi built many reinforced, deep concrete bunkers. As long as he has food and water, he’s going to pop back up. He will probably outlast his detractors.
EXACTLY! A point I have been posting around the web for 2 days. We are bombing the hell out of Libya, for no good reason, targeting the leader of a sovereign nation.
Timing is everything I guess. Saturday night the nobel peace prize winner kills 3 innocent children under 12 y/o during an undeclared war and Sunday blows away the most wanted terrorist in the world by invading another sovereign nation.
No hate mail please. I am all for taking out osama. Just making a point here.
Next time—use bigger bombs.
Who dropped the bomb/ My guess is the British—they can be a dastardly people when they want to be—but so too the French. The dagger and the poison cup can be effective tools. Gadhafi better have paid up his life insurance because with England and France after you its only a question of time before your pushing up daises.
OMG! That is fantastic! Has Rush really put that shirt out there?
