Without debate, the Texas Senate today approved a bill to allow lawmakers to carry concealed handguns anywhere, even in places where average Texans cannot.
At a time when legislation allowing concealed-handgun license holders to carry their pistols inside buildings on university and college campuses is stalled, and may not pass, Senate Bill 905 was approved 25-6 in just a matter of minutes.
Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, said the measure that would allow legislators, statewide elected officials, some former legislators and some state employees to carry their concealed weapons in bars, churches and hospitals and at sporting events and other places they are currently prohibited — including businesses that post signs outside saying concealed handguns are prohibited.
Bastards.
Only possible upside is that it gives a future legislator an argument that if it’s okay for them, it should be okay for anyone.
I think they should also have special “intelligentsia only” driving lanes, commissaries, and other perks. After all, some animals are more equal.
Why havent we learned that legislators and Law enforcement officers are a step above us.
Of course they can carry weapons and we cannot, because we arent as good as they.

The legislators are the ones who should be disarmed.
Looks to me like a clever lawyer could use that to compel “Vermont carry”. They’ve just eviscerated any argument that only police/military should carry under certain conditions.
Yet every common-sense anti-illegal immigration bill is languishing in committee, and there's a very good chance that the session will close without a single one of them ever seeing the light of day.
And we thought we won something in the midterm elections. What fools we were.
What’s next, separate entryways for lawmakers? Specific water fountains (with reverse osmosis filtration systems) for lawmakers only? Do they get to reserve the front seats in the bus, or the closest parking spots to their reserved doorways?

I’ve posted here before that I have a “judge/prosecutor” CHL in Texas that allows me to carry anywhere. The reason provided by the Legislature was that judges and prosecutors are supposed to be charged with assisting in the protection of the public, as well as being targets for disgruntled parties. This sounds like the same sort of reasoning. Frankly, I’m firmly of the opinion that “an armed society is a polite society”, so I think anybody ought to be able to carry anywhere. Even on military bases (my absolute pet peeve in this area).

Sure, but look at how fast this bill passed. Not even a whimper of dissent from the Democrats, yet they'll fight tooth and nail to prevent ordinary citizens from enjoying the same privileges they just conferred upon themselves.
Anything in the Texas Legislature now that is being stalled is because of the Speaker...
Just remember who voted for the RiNO, and those who are getting screwed because they didn’t support him are being redistricted out of office now...
I find this kind of bill (law) now to be insulting above and beyond whatever support I’ve lent in the past to my State Senator who probably doesn’t carry on a daily basis anyway...
Never mind that they probably (but who knows, maybe they did) talk to people like Alice Tripp (TSRA lobbyist), Charles Cotton (NRA Board of Directors), Commissioner Patterson (Father of the Texas CHL) about this bill and how much it is a slap in the face to Texas CHL’ers in this state...
Since virtually any adult in TX is qualified to serve in the legislature if elected, it follows that any adult should be able to carry concealed. An argument to the contrary would be pretty strained.

Indeed; that pisses me off to no end as well.
After all the briefs on what a lawful/unlawful order is in my 9 years in the sheer hypocrisy of the “No Firearms on Military Bases” is astounding; consider that any law contrary to the Constitution *IS* unlawful, and that both Enlisted and Officers are sworn to uphold & defend the Constitution, they turn right around and ignore the plain language of “shall not be infringed.”
