The Fed Is Your Friend: Posters From the 1920s

The Federal Reserve system has lots of ways to communicate with the public, but that wasn’t always the case.

The Fed has Web sites for the board in Washington and all the regional banks with access to speeches by officials, research and even blogs, there’s TV coverage of the chairman’s testimony and now press conference, there’s a plethora of other sites (including this one, of course) that cover the central bank closely, not to mention the banks’ paper publications and local outreach efforts.

But there weren’t always so many options available. The New York Fed’s Liberty Street Economics blog posts five posters from the 1920s that aimed to get the Fed’s message out to the public. (See all the posters.) The posters, archived by the San Francisco Fed, aimed to get the message out that Federal Reserve system was keeping the world safe for commerce.
