LA Times: Netanyahu pushes back on Obama's peace plan
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 21, 2011 | By Paul Richter

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly lectured President Obama on the shortcomings of his plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks during a tense Oval Office appearance that laid bare the strained relations between the leaders.

Admonishing a president of the United States on international television, Netanyahu rejected the plan outlined by Obama that would use the borders in effect before the 1967 Middle East War as the starting point for negotiations, saying that doing so would risk Israel's security and force it to negotiate with "a Palestinian version of Al Qaeda."

"The only peace that will endure is one based on reality, on unshakeable facts," Netanyahu said, leaning intently toward a grim Obama in the appearance that followed an unusually long, three-hour meeting Friday.

The clash was rare even by the standards of frequently fractious ties between U.S. and Israeli leaders. Obama and Netanyahu sat mostly stiff and unsmiling, and addressed each other by their titles rather than first names.

Obama and Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Obama meet in the Oval Office. Netanyahu very publicly registered his disagreement with proposals Obama had made the day before offering a basis for peace talks with the Palestinians. (Andrew Harrer / Bloomberg)

Don't you love how the LA Slimes uses the terms 'lectured' and 'admonished' to describe PM Netanyahu's response to Barry. Like it's the PM who's the villain. The Slimes just has their nickers in a bunch because someone actually had the balls to got into 'Barry's house' in front of eyes of millions of viewers and tell Barry he's 'full of sh!t'.

It's pathetically laughable, this 'president' of ours. He spent years railing on Bush for 'sticking his nose in other people's business', yet Barry has the arrogance to 'demand' that another country change it's borders.

Obama doesn’t listen to a thing. He is in it to destroy Israel. Thats the plan. Israel is being set up for a muslim attack. I pray that its citizens can hold them off.

Our “genius” President and his brilliant staff thought they could drop a bomb on Israel and NOT get their asses handed to them, publicly and embarrassingly.

Of all the episodes you could choose from, to counter the Left’s “Obama is intelligent” meme, this is probably the best.

Or, at least, the funniest.

BO is REALLY PO’d, because he thought he could blackmail Israel into silence.

“ah...he won’t give me a hard time, cuz he know’s I’ll cut off his allowance..”

Whoopsie! Some things are more important than your Chicago gangster style politics Barack!

This could well go beyond Newt Gingrich’s gaff last Sunday, as far as the affect it has on Obama’s candidacy for a 2nd term. Both candidates shortly after announcing their candidacies for 2012 come out with stupendous errors in judgement.

But, Obama’s the greater, IMO. Gingrich’s was making a political statement that caused a rift within the GOP. Obama’s is over international policy, and leads to the obvious question of his ability to deal wisely in representing America to the World.

Our former allies ought to be lining up to publically kick the pompous ass Hussein’s backside. I’d enjoy every minute of it.

Last time Bibi was in office, he gave up the Gaza Strip which greatly helped the Palestinians in their goal to eliminate Israel and the Jews. Hope Bibi’s learned his lesson.

If by “pushes back” you mean totally wipes the floor with Obama and makes him look like a naive, prize chump on the world stage, then yes, “pushes back.” NPR’s news this morning spent a suspiciously long time trying to cover BO’s embarrassed butt.

Is there any way we could get Bibi to run for our President? Yeah I know; too bad though. We need a strong leader like Netanyahu.

He exposed him as a Muslim in front of the whole world is what he did, and in a very gentlemanly way. Spirits were at work here, in my opinion.

One would think, it would at least in the USA of thirty years ago.

But I'm afraid, with huge numbers of recent arrivals and general dumbing down by the state educational system since, nearly half the country has become radicalized and is right on board with the hard left agenda.

This country has an increasingly wide rift in worldviews and there will be a day of reckoning.

I think the advent of the Tea Party, and the polling shifts in Independent voters over the last two years shows differently. Obama received a bounce from his bin Laden episode, but that’s coming back to normal now, and any one with no bias against Israel will see how terrible a policy statement this was, how calculated it was in dealing with another foreign nation, and how obvious it was that Obama was smacked down on national TV.

No, I suspect this will be very damaging to him. As it should be.

Has he told Assad to get out? I thought he simply threatened him with sanctions.

Ironic, the only one of the three you mentioned to gun down unarmed protestors by the score gets sanctions.

Bibi slapping down a stunned Obama right on his home court. Karma works slowly but it was a beautiful event worth waiting for.
