Herman Cain appeared Thursday on Fox & Friends, and spoke strongly in favor of Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-WI) controversial proposal to privatize Medicare. And Cain quite proudly called the proposal a "voucher" program -- a word that Republicans are trying to avoid.
Fox host Gretchen Carlson asked Cain what he thought of the fact that none of the various budgets in Congress can pass.
"Well what's going on is, they're not being honest with the American people," said Cain. "The fact of the matter is, Ryan's plan represents giving people a choice -- but if you're 55 years of age or older, you're not gonna be affected. Nobody's talking about that.
"Secondly, nobody's talking about the fact that the centerpiece of Ryan's plan is a voucher. Now, a lot of people don't like to use that term because it has a negative connotation. That is what we need."
The GOP talking points on the plan have carefully eschewed the word "voucher" in favor of the friendlier "premium assistance" or "premium support." Cain, on the other hand, is apparently ignoring that particular memo.
Carlson noted that Cain is supporting Ryan's plan, but other Republican candidates have not done so fully. For example, Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty have given it some praise, but also said they would wait to come out with their own plans, which will have many similarities but also some differences.
"I support Ryan's plan 100 percent. We don't need to come up with another plan," Cain responded. "The people who are backing away from Ryan's plan -- which is very well thought out, he's already had it scored -- they simply lack courage, Gretchen. I don't know any other way to put it. They lack courage.
"Don't back away from something just because it's controversial, or because it's difficult to explain to the American people. The American people are not stupid. Explain it to them."
You go Herman.
Mr. Cain makes more sense every day....
Vouchers only have a “negative connotation” because the left hates the idea of people making their own spending decisions.
He has been begging for a Republican to do this.
Good for Cain...he is the man!!

Was just thinking that. He is talking about issues. I love his book.
Liberals are ALWAYS pro-choice. Well except when it comes to what public school you want your child to attend, what car you can drive, what state you can put your business in, what kind of toilet you can buy, what kind of light bulb you can use, what food you eat, where you live, how much you are allowed to make, how to raise your children, and how to live your lives. Other than that, you are free to choose to murder your unborn baby and to marry any homosexual you want.
Finally! Maybe we have a politician who isn’t a puppet.
What is so negative about the term “voucher”? Wouldn’t you prefer a “voucher” to buy whatever you want instead of what ever they decide to give you?
I’d say Cain is Able.......
Bottom line:
“Don’t back away from something just because it’s controversial, or because it’s difficult to explain to the American people. The American people are not stupid. Explain it to them.”
Thank you Mr. Cain.
“I’m beginning to think one of these outside the establishment GOP types is going to win!.....There are enough people now that can get one elected. The democrats and republicans have so pissed off everyone and they still can’t see the train coming......
“I hate the Republican establishment in DC. They’re losers with loser minds and loser spines.”
They do seem hell bent upon defeat, but that is something I would expect of them as defeat or as they might call it “moderation” means they get to keep more of their power.
Do not expect federal politicians to want to give up power, expect them instead to desire to sabotages or water down their own efforts.
The only reason they are doing this at all is cause we have given them the impression that they personalty may lose reelection if they don’t. But ultimately they know we can only enforce that impression based upon what little we can see from the backseat. That means they in the driver seat can and will take advantage of all the “detour” to slow themselves down towards that goal of giving up power they really don’t want.
