Congressional lines drawn to edge out GOP (Illinois)

SPRINGFIELD— — Suburban voters are likely to see unfamiliar names on the ballot when they vote for Congress next year under a proposed Democratic map unveiled Friday aimed at removing most of the rookie Republicans who won last November.

Take Elmhurst. Longtime residents of the western suburb are used to having conservative Republicans like the late Henry Hyde and Rep. Peter Roskam as their congressman. They soon could find themselves represented by the liberal Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley, whose home base is the North Side of Chicago.

McHenry Voters in Will County just getting to know freshman GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an Air Force pilot, could see him square off against Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., the son of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, in a district that stretches from Chicago's South Side to Kankakee County.

Up north, McHenry County voters represented by either longtime Republican Rep. Don Manzullo or freshman GOP Rep. Joe Walsh would find themselves in a single district that stretches south into DuPage County and is home to another freshman, Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren of Winfield.

Typical gerrymandering. The risk is that they spread the Democrat vote too thin and are not able to make up for the deficiency with vote fraud.

That could result in Jesse Jackson Jr. ending up booted out of Congress the first time the black voters decide they're "tired of the man" with all the white voters showing up POd.

Like some current districts aren't already outstanding examples of gerrymandering:

—about thirty years ago I had Moonbeam Brown as governor, Dianne Feinstein as mayor, Alan Cranston as one senator and one John Burton as congresscritter—can you beat that?

We were part of Jim Moran's district for a while a decade back.

He beats the HE!! out of Cynthia McKinney, but that's it (double pun there).

Guy is a wife beating child molesting falling down street drunk.

Just a note, I first met Cynthia when she was a baby ~ the grand daughter of a fellow I worked with.

She sure turned out wrong.

That’s got to be about the worst example around, and there’s lots of competition.

Umm yeah. today’s group. It’s worse for the same region
So don’t whine.

Now:
Jerry Brown - governor

Senators - boxer and feinstein

Rep - Pelosi

So yeah. Far worse now.

BTW you are wrong about Feinstein being senator. She was never a US senator the 1st time Jerry Brown was governor. Feinstein and Boxer both got into Senate for the 1st time in 1992.

My main point stands: it’s worse now. Boxer is dumber and left of Cranston. Pelosi is a greater lunatic than John Burton.

What shocked the Democrats the most in 2010 Elections were the lost of so many State Houses and Governors.

That is why it was so important for the next 10 years and the Media knows this and does this story. See how many Democratic seats will be lost in 2012.

We’re talking about this on the state board.

They changed a lot. Stuck Kingzinger in with Jesse Jackson. Stuck Biggert’s house is QUIGLEY’s district. She’ll probably run in the new vacant 11th.

It looks like Tim Johnson’s seat was the one wiped off the map, as I predicted.

The important thing is how many Republicans can we expect to have. I’d don’t know what the partisan breakdowns of the new seats are. The new 17th doesn’t appear to be radically altered. Looks like they stuck some of Peoria in there to try and make it a little more rat. The Chicago area seats are a mess. Looks like Dold and Walsh are together in new 10th though Dold’s house is in with Schawkowsky he is unlikey to run there, though he might as well I don’t think he can beat Walsh in a primary. The new 8th and 6th are a mystery to me. I’m sure 1 or both will be rat.

Actually I’ve learned Walsh is the 14 with Hultgren.

Gave Rockford to the 17th too. So I guess that is a major alter.

I can see why the Dems would like to deep six Kinzinger. He seems to hold a lot of promise in IL politics at a young age. JJ, Jr. has getting a lot of bad press and may be in some hot water in the Blago mess, but Dems overlook the foibles of their candidates, illegal or not. If Kinzinger is stuck in a lopsided Dem district, hopefully he can relocate and run in a toss up or GOP favorable district in IL.

From what I've seen of him, Walsh is a pit bull and the GOP needs fighters like him in D.C. I can see him beating Dold in a primary.

I almost got out of Guititerz’s seat and into Danny Davis’s. So close.

Kingz may wanna run in the new 11th too. He has no chance against Jackson in a seat where deep south Chicago and largely black south suburbs will outvote the GOP areas of the seat.

Over at daily kos they are cooing about winning the 6th, 8th, 10th, 17th and maybe the 13th.

Just looking at the map I wouldn’t say we don’t have a chance in those seats.
