Obama’s EPA Regulations Will Cost Coal Industry $200 Billion & Electricity Rates to Skyrocket
GatewayPundit ^ | 6/8/11 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 06/08/2011 7:53:27 PM PDT by SanFranDan

In January 2008 Barack Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.”

He promised that his plan would cause electricity rates to skyrocket. He wasn’t kidding.

In January, 2011 the Obama Administration, for the first time ever, blocked an already approved bid to build one of the largest mountaintop removal coal mines in Appalachian history.

And, today it was reported that Obama’s energy plans will cause electricity rates to necessarily skyrocket Just as he promised.

Via US News and World Reports:

Two new EPA pollution regulations will slam the coal industry so hard that hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost, and electric rates will skyrocket 11 percent to over 23 percent, according to a new study based on government data.

Overall, the rules aimed at making the air cleaner could cost the coal-fired power plant industry $180 billion, warns a trade group.

“Many of these severe impacts would hit families living in states already facing serious economic challenges,” said Steve Miller, president of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. “Because of these impacts, EPA should make major changes to the proposed regulations before they are finalized,” he said.

The EPA, however, tells Whispers that the hit the industry will suffer is worth the health benefits.

Thanks to power pools and “fairness” deals even if your local power is hydro or nuke you're also going to suffer the same as if you were on coal power.

I really do think Obama prefers coal miners to die in underground blowouts.

Mountain top mining is far safer.

Michelle and her kids ought to worry quite a bit about this tendency ~ he might get up in the night and start roving around killing them.

It's worth wondering about the EPA geeks who wrote these rules up too.

Did they perhaps start out as young children killing baby ducks?

Meanwhile Obie is promising transportation and energy based on a mythical technology that isn't even on anyone’s drawing board.

I’m not mad at him; he is what he is. The guy is doing exactly what he said he’d do. I’m much angrier at the 53% of idiot Americans who put him in the White House.

Republicans have tons of campaign issues to use against this idiot.

If Bam Bam is re-elected he’ll bury this country completely.

EPA, one more agency that should be disbanded, along with Homeland Security, the IRS, the Dept. of Education and others.

WASHINGTON - High gasoline prices, government budget cuts and weaker-than-expected consumer spending caused the U.S. economy to grow only weakly in the first three months of the year.

Blame High energy Prices on the economy you are causing and wonder why 48% think we are heading for a depression

And in keeping with current trends, I fully expect EPA SqWAT teams to start forming, to break into homes and businesses and enforce arbitrary regulations at gunpoint.

When will we start feeling the shock of this action? A year, 2 years, how long? I know we are feeling the increase in unemployment, but a lot of people are just going about their business because they haven’t been laid off. When is the U.S. across the board going to start feeling the extreme differences in light bills, etc. The gas is up to almost $4.00 a gal. but people seem to have excepted it, mainly because they knew it was slowly rising, but people are not screaming in the streets, as of yet. Will these prices rise at a time when the Republicans take over and are trying to solve our debt and collapsed economy problems. Are the Repulicans going to get the blame as they always seem to do and become tongue tied and not defend themselves. OMG!
