American Electric Power on Thursday announced it plans to shut down several coal-fired power plants, convert or retrofit others, and cut as many as 600 jobs in the next few years to comply with regulations proposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Based on the proposed regulations, AEP will have to retire nearly 6,000 megawatts of coalfueled power generation; upgrade or install new advanced emissions reduction equipment on another 10,100 megawatts; refuel 1,070 megawatts of coal generation as 932 megawatts of natural gas capacity; and build 1,220 megawatts of natural gas-fueled generation.

We are so screwed.
Jobs and energy independence? Never mind. It won’t affect Obama’s golf game, so it’s not important.

TGO was all talking about this yesterday
I hate this shiite!!! I am stamping my feet furious!!! This Obama is trying to kill America but don’t blame just him. He has appointed scum who think just like him. Henchmen like EPA’s Lisa Jackson to carry out his wishes
Obama has made America dysfunctional
I love coal! Coal made America great and so did oil and natural gas. Nuke Harvard. Destroy Harvard jobs over there and keep our coal fired electricity coming!
WE are an energy superpower and the libs are trying to kill this
The time has come for AEP to cut off the power to all members of Congress. Maybe then, they just might come to know that “green laws” are killing the finances of the majority of all Americans.
Even the headline of this story is telling a very small part of the looming disaster. When electricity prices skyrocket, who can predict how many hundreds (thousands?) of businesses go under?
He must be defeated. I like what Levin says - that he would vote for an orange juice can against this wrecker. We have a lot of passionate discussions about who to run against him - but come November 2012, we must defeat him - regardless.
This is precisely what King George and his minions were doing to the colonialists 235 years ago. Our government has become an unregulated predator...while the people we vote to go up there and “control” the beast become intimidated into to fondling themselves and taking pictures of it rather than doing their jobs
The Obama administration and its troglodyte backers won’t be satisfied until we’re all back living in caves and scratching each other for lice.
No cook fires, though; it might release carbon dioxide.
Yep. We are in a number of ways including rising costs. Cutting the plants that produce this electricity will cause outages. And the push for electric auto’s. Where is the capacity going to come from? This is a long term plan of nation destruction.
I’ve worked with AEP engineers on some coal plants. They knew back then what they were all about. I’d take AEP’s engineering over EPA’s science any day!
“I will not make coal illegal... I will make it so expensive to operate that they will stop”. barrack hussein obama
Obama is evil, but he is a symptom, not the disease. Remember that a large number of Americans, many of them not even dead or fictional, voted for this druggie. As big a danger to America as Obama is, the bigger danger is the parasites and bigots who voted for him. That segment of our population is the dysfunction that we have to address.
Don't forget the "affirmative action" morons who voted for him because he (and his wife and kids) are black. I suppose that could fall into the bigot category, the soft bigotry of low expectations. They will vote for him again despite his abject failure.
Stupid idiots ... just walk away from the place and allow Americans to run it.
This is what obaam promised during his campaign
his comments were leaked, anyione who paid attention knew about it.
Manchin et al be damned, the people of WV are getting what they elected. Maybe man-of-the-people senator Jay Rockefller gives a damn. Nah.
The UMW is OK with this because their members have become coolies, busily mining coal to be shipped to China
Well said!
