On one hand I'm glad I've gotten off grid. On the other hand it's a bummer that I've bought the technology while it is still inefficient and expensive. Like buying a 4 function calculator for $200 when they first became available. Now they are essentially free.

BTW, when the idiot left talks about solar they have no idea what they are talking about. And to those who have done it, off grid means propane. Self sufficient as long as the propane truck stops by. Mr. Van Driessens all.

I’m installing solar panels. Looks to be about $35-45,000 for a 8.5kw system. Spendy, but it is calculated to pay for itself in 10-14 years (less if this article proves true). With an estimated life span of 30-35 years, it should be a good investment. I agree with you though, I’m absolutely positive that the technology will improve dramatically in the next 10 years and then rapidly increase after that, but can a person really afford to wait until the technology is perfect? Nope. Get the bets deal you can now that makes economical sense and upgrade later (if I live that long).

IOW, a petroleum/natural gas product, and one of the things Barack Obama stated he is planning to cap.
