>> Voting for the lesser of two evils is what got us into this mess.<<

Uh no, what got us into this mess was intellectual laziness in the primaries allowing folks like McCain to win at that level. This mess is Obama, and people who voted McCain-Palin in the general election are not the problem because McCain lost. The greater of two evils won, not the lesser of two evils.

Not trying to tell you to vote Mitt in the general - that’s not my point - (I don’t think he’ll win the nomination anyway) — but I cannot buy your thesis.

Romney is the media’s McCain pick. Trying to pull an O8’. Won’t work this time. Romney is not the people’s choice. Bachmann and Cain or the leads from last night debate.

My opinion was he smiled alot and sidestepped his way through the whole thing. I guess I do not see how he came out on top. He sure did not to me.

I think that Cain, Bachman and Santorum all did well last night. My wife was very impressed with both Bachman and Santorum. I think the two biggest winners were Bachman and Santorum.

Cain's my guy and I think he did ok but he needs a little more polish. His answers were 'right' they just weren't delivered with as much polish as a practised politician...one of the biggest reasons I love the guiy. He's NOT a practised and polished politician. But I'm not worries...he'll get smoother in a hurry. He's a quick study.

Pawlenty had his chance to go after Romney and blew it.

Next January a convention of Conservatives will approach the one sure winner. And Paul Ryan will enter the race.

Cain and TPaw hurt themselves, and since they were the most direct challengers—of those in the debate—to Bachmann and Romney, Bachmann and Romney won.

I don't think Cain hurt himself. He certainly didn't shine like he did in SC but he came out unscathed. In my mind Pawlenty was the big loser. He had a couple of opportunities to show us who he is and what he showed us was weak, uninspiring and evasive.

survey of Republican and Democratic political operatives, campaign consultants, and party strategists

Wow. This group would compete HARD with Hollywood for the title of Most Irrelevant Americans.

The winners/losers of the debate are not the same as who I would vote for. That said, here’s my assessment, from best to worst:

Loved Bachmann! One gaffe - regarding wars she said she would confer with the comnmanders and chiefs. Uh really?

Romney’s put-down of Pawlenty was slick: “Tim has the right instincts”.

Santorum was good but unpresidential.

Pawlenty confirmed that he doesn’t have the nads to be POTUS.

Gingrich continues to walk the line between genius and insanity.

Cain’s Muslim comments doomed him (though he’s right).

Paul is charming but his isolationist foreign policy is crazy.

Romney is apparently the Establishment pick and and who ever the Establishment chooses WILL be the GOP nominee despite what the rube voters want.

Well, after everyone gets their little quips in, there are a couple of serious things to emerge from this:

1) Bachmann did well. She did better among Democrats ("they will tell us who they fear").

2) Better news: Pawlenty did poorly, among everyone.

3) Cain did badly. Sad to hear.

Remember that these assessments were made from the position of campaign strategists "inside baseball" kind of stuff, so they are looking at who "landed blows," etc. So it's probably accurate to say that Mitt didn't do badly. If no one took apart his Obamacare support, he wouldn't do badly.

The Democrats haven’t reached a level of fear with Bachmann—they and the press and the RINO Establishment who egged her into the race are still promoting her as a way to stop Palin.

It’s possible that will change, but that’s where we are right now.

Not a political insider— but when Mitt R. said Shariah law will never be in our Courts. I have to disagree. And find Herman Cain more honest -and telling the truth,as I believe it true. Mr.Newt nuked Mitt by telling the truth about Islam as well. I could Never vote for a Muslim— nor for a homosexual to be entrusted with such power over our laws. Both groups are comfortable living a lie and telling lies -and both would use such power to advance their twisted way of life and both would harm our Constitution.

“Bachmann made a mistake by using that forum to announce her candidacy. As a result, this morning, the newsies are glossing over it.”

Maybe, but the whole announcement thing is stupid anyway. She’s on the stage. Obviously she’s a candidate. The media glossing over it is meaningless

I can’t stand these morons like Romney & Pawlenty who campaign for a year and then make “the big announcement” Spare us.

It still ain’t over, its too early. It ain’t over until its over and the fat lady sings. It only takes an incident to change direction at this point in time. I want Palin in there, without her, its meaningless. I like her out of all the rest, but if Alan West was running, I’d change my choice. I guess I view Leadership differently than most of the voting public.(LOL, the Press would probably say we were headed toward a Military Dictatorship.)

People who voted for mcCain in the primaries did so because they thought he was either A. Electable or B. The least of the evils presented. So, yes, voting for the lesser of two evils did partially get us into this mess. If all you’re presented with is a lesser evil, then you should simply let the party self destruct and start over.
