On Tuesday, President Obama signed an Executive Order creating SelectUSA, a new government-wide initiative that will promote the United States as the premier place to do business globally and help attract business operations to the U.S., in order to spur economic growth and job creation.
Yesterday, I launched this important new initiative with the President of the Business Roundtable, John Engler, and CEOs from a number of multinational companies.
SelectUSA comes at a critical juncture in our nations economic recovery. In order to encourage foreign firms to do business and U.S. firms to keep their business here in America, SelectUSA will address federal-level investment barriers, highlight the U.S. as the premier place to do business and target foreign and domestic firms that could potentially seek to expand in the United States. The initiative will be supported by a comprehensive website, www.SelectUSA.gov, which offers government-wide information on federal programs and services relevant to companies that invest in the United States in one, easy-to-access location.
SelectUSA will be led by its Executive Director, Barry Johnson, who was Senior Advisor at the Economic Development Administration and is a seasoned leader from the corporate world. Barry and his team, including Deputy Executive Director Aaron Brickman, will spearhead this effort and work as a liaison between potential investors and U.S. state and federal agencies to help eliminate investment barriers for companies looking to invest and locate in the United States. Barry will also convene and chair a Federal Interagency Investment Working group, alongside the director of the National Economic Council, to ensure that all government agencies work together to cut government red tape and make the United States an appealing destination for businesses.
The Commerce Department is uniquely suited to spearhead SelectUSA, with a global network of personnel in the United States and nearly 80 countries around the world working to drive business growth and development. SelectUSA will also incorporate existing programs, like Invest in America, to guarantee efficiency and effectiveness of the initiative.
This initiative is a direct response to concerns the administration has heard from the business community. And we are proud to be leading this effort that will help drive economic growth in cities and communities across America. I would like to sincerely thank our SelectUSA team for working so hard to put this exciting initiative together, as we look forward to more stories of successful businesses opening up and expanding in America, bringing jobs and prosperity to the American people.
Instead of Obama releasing the shackles on US businesses he thinks he can improve thing by yet another gov't agency, accountable to nobody but him.
Anybody know Barry Johnson or Aaron Brickman? What kind of commies are they?
It’s another dumping ground for useless political hacks who need to be paid off with sinecures.
Yes, all of Wieners staff needs a job somewhere.
Whew! Well, glad THAT problem’s solved! /sarc
Colonel, USAFR
Only the communists could come up with another level of bureaucracy to cut through all the levels of bureaucracy.
Barry and Aaron appear to be the new bagmen who will collect the bribes to the Obama campaign from foreign investors looking to do business in the USA.
Woo, hoo Happy Days are Here Again.
I bumped this to breaking news.
“Barry and Aaron appear to be the new bagmen who will collect the bribes to the Obama campaign from foreign investors looking to do business in the USA.”
ding ding ding we have a winner!!!
And Congress authorized the expenditure of funds for this when exactly?
as we look forward to more stories of successful businesses opening up... I’m sorry. I missed the first one. Where was it?
I certainly look forward to SelectUSA’s initial Five Year Plan.
Anybody know Barry Johnson or Aaron Brickman?..... Google’em.
I thought we were trying to figure out how we were going to get out of all of this debt! I though The Won was creating a group to help make the government more efficient!
Apparently, he has decided instead to have a “laser0like” focus on jobs creation: for more fricking GOVERNMENT bureaucracies and government workers!!
He spends a great deal of time trying to trick people into believing that he’s doing something good or productive. What a waste of a human being.

Oh, good! Another department of bureaucrats — on a mission to market the US to other countries. Yes, that’s just the thing to get the economy rolling. /s
Dear Federal Government,
If you have to create an all new department, then your damn rules are to complicated for businesses to understand.
