I posted there [www.dailymail.co.uk/], too. I didn’t stop to read the other posts.

All we can do is attempt to educate the vast unwashed progressive liberals and leave it at that.

Go Sarah Palin [tm] ... next thing you know, Obummer will be TM his name.

In Kenya. /sarc

This is a very mart move

Too many people will user her name for bad purposes. This gives her some protection

(not a lot, they are libtards after all)

But it will keep Romney’s name out of the news for a couple of days so there’s another benefit

There are probably people who would want to market a Sarah Palin sex toy, for example, and this would probably prohibit that sort of thing. I see this mostly as a defensive measure, rather than as some sort of money-grubbing or ego thing.

Steve, I think you won Post of The Thread. That makes more sense than any other theory so far.

Well Led Zeppelin played Howling Wolf’s “Killing Floor Blues” and threw in a Robert Johnson lyric about “squeeze my lemon till the juice runs down my leg” and called it “The Lemon Song”.

It was ruled that it was substantially “Killing Floor Blues” and Led Zeppelin had to pay Howling Wolf.

When they asked Howling Wolf about it he said “that is all just lawyer stuff” and that he was glad they played his music.

Perhaps some of his “live and let live” philosophy on music was because his own “Asked Her For Water, She Brought Me Gasoline” song was quite similar to “Clear Drink of Water Blues”.

In music it is sometimes hard to say where “influence” leaves off and where “you copied it” begins - but I think “the Lemon Song” was all too obviously the original work of Howling Wolf - and a few Robert Johnson lines of sexual innuendo doesn’t make it original enough to not pay Howling.

"I believe such would be covered under “fair use”.

For example - Mickey Mouse is a trademark of Disney."

Fair use, or parody....

Obvious parody.

They are mocking the trademark image of Disney - not trying to deprive Disney of profit that would rightly be theirs for selling of the actual image of “Mickey Mouse”.

“....All the “I hate Sarah Palin” t-shirts and bumper stickers will be paying her a royalty....”

I understand, and as a private citizen that is a brilliant move on her part - but my point is - I am not sure that can be the case if you are a political candidate. As I said, I’m not sure it is not the case either.

I am all in favor of her pulling a brilliant move from a business standpoint. And if she runs, she’s one of my favorites. This may have legal ramifications on a candidacy or may be a clue to her intentions. I support her either way.

Sorry....I don’t believe in this. Entrepeneurs are put out of business...shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, mugs....

It's OK. Those entrepeneurs can just put their own pictures and own names on their shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, mugs ...

Or would you like your neighbor to be able to make money by selling your car, your house, your trees, your dogs, cats, and kids?

-"Sorry....I don’t believe in this."

You don't have to apologize. Just relocate yourself to the nearest communist country and you will be more 'in-synch' with what you believe.

Sorry, I see someone profiting off of someone elses fame as a leech, not an entrepreneur.

You are absolutely correct. Our founders were big on intellectual property - it was one of the few enumerated powers.

People have a right to develop an image and name and sell and promote under that name and image without it being subject to poaching.

American commerce depends upon it.

It is amazing what depths PDS can drive some.

I am certain that the reason has nothing to do with money and everything to do with liberals trying to smear her.
