Sarah Palin Reportedly Quits Bus Tour Halfway Through
TPM ^ | June 22, 2011 | Jillian Rayfield

Posted on 06/22/2011 1:15:59 PM PDT by Daffynition

Former half-term Gov. Sarah Palin has reportedly packed in her bus tour...halfway through.

Real Clear Politics is reporting that Palin and her family have returned to Alaska from their "One Nation" bus tour, despite tentatively scheduled stops in Iowa and South Carolina.

From Scott Conroy at RCP:

Though Palin and her staff never announced a timeline for the remaining legs of her trip, aides had drafted preliminary itineraries that would have taken her through the Midwest and Southeast at some point this month. But those travel blueprints are now in limbo, RCP has learned, as Palin and her family have reverted to the friendly confines of summertime Alaska, where the skies are currently alight for over 19 hours a day and the Bristol Bay salmon fishing season is nearing its peak.

Palin's intent to visit Iowa and South Carolina, as well as one stop in New Hampshire, caused some speculation that she was starting to get serious about a run for president in 2012.

The bus tour was launched over Memorial Day weekend, and was particularly scrutinized after one event in Boston where Palin badly flubbed the story behind Paul Revere's ride.

Maybe she has come down from Heaven to save us, but I think it would be news to her as well. I pray for her safety and success, but if reactions here are illustrative, there’s not going to be much of an election on the conservative side that this country’s founders would recognize. I didn’t even criticize her, but was accused of it. How are people going to handle any kind of difference on the issues, even between her and who she’d choose for running mate?

Why, your concern implied in the above post.

Whether based on Longfellow or not, the gist of Paul Revere's Ride is that he warned the colonists of the approach of the British. It is really sad to see so many of you defend her on this gaffe. It's not the worst gaffe I've ever heard, but a gaffe nonetheless. If Biden had made the same statement you'd be all over him.

I disagree. Her point was that the Redcoats were not going to be permitted to take our weapons and that Revere warned them that we were ready and they would fail.

Haha!

I was wondering the same thing. Your post had nothing to do with Paul Revere, and reading the response about “bells” and such made me laugh, because it was just so random.

A confusing day for massgopguy?

“From another freeper: BTW the simple answer to why Palin is silent is because Todd Palin has to be there to manage his boats and fulfill his obligations as a license holder in Bristol Bay.The family simply has to be in Alaska. When the Salmon have finished their run in the bay and production of fish moves off Todd’s grounds, the Palin’s can continue their tour. There’s nothing unusual about this, anyone who’s been paying attention knew it was going to happen. Track Palin is supposed to be taking over, but it’s not his yet, Todd still holds the license. If they don’t fish their grounds this year, they lose them.”

Thanks for the information - sorry I missed your post until now dealing with the other ones here. I don’t know why my question was taken as rhetoric - an answer like this gives a pretty good insight into what might be going on.

"And it simply could be the press has it wrong and her aids haven’t been snubbed in any way."

That certainly could be the case, but apparently some of her aides are starting to speak out out on the issue:

"More than a few of Palin's core supporters have grown impatient and confused about her strategy, venting their frustration on Internet fan sites."

Prior to this there was the bit about her supposed entry into the race:

"Last week, the American Spectator, citing a single and unnamed Republican source, claimed that her presidential decision was imminent. Palin shot this speculation down immediately, but she didn't counter it with anything definitive." http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/06/22/palin_bus_tour_takes_extended_pit_stop__110313.html

I would not be surprised if the source of the announcement rumor was one of the aides who helped to plan the bus tour. It is likely that they saw it as a campaign kickoff.

That’s just nuts! Why come on these threads and trade insults with others about people who support her. So what if you they do. So what if they do enthusiastically. Is it any skin off your nose? Do you gain anything insulting other conservatives? Seriously, you won’t change any minds no one cares if they change yours. Why continue to disrupt threads to make negative comments about people who don’t share your opinion regardless of what you think of their support. Frankly the whole business is rather childish. It’s kinda like a television program, if you don’t like it change the channel. If you don’t like Palin and level of support she garners here, visit different threads.

“.......As much as I like her and as smart as I think she actually is, worshiping her as a goddess that’s going to arrive and save everyone and fix everything is going to disappoint many of those who do in the long run....”

Amen to that. Little story: After she gave the now famous Madison, Wisconsin speech - which was a sharper speech than many she had given recently, I wrote in AT that perhaps - PERHAPS - she took a cue from Andrew Breitbart, who had given her introduction in a red meat speech of his own - and sharpened up her own speech.

It was of course a compliment, that she would be smart enough to change a speech on a dime like that. But the kool aid Palinista’s attacked me like I was Rachel Maddow.

I think she’s merely wonderful, but not perfect. That’s not enough for some folks. And on the bus tour? I have no idea, but I did see where her Sudan trip is cancelled FWIW

Like they do on every other uncomfortable political issue; Intellectual dishonesty.

I think she took this time to help her decide whether to run or not.

I think she chose not.

Meanwhile she did good things for America.

I’m not really sure you’re really a fine person now, so what you might think of me, or anything else, becomes less and less important.

Palin’s remark struck me as someone knowing the entire story tossing off a quick summary, a large number of historians supported that view.

So let me see if I’ve got this right: Scott Conroy at Realclearpolitics writes a column this morning about what COULD be going on with this bus tour, and by this afternoon, the media is running with “It’s all over!”

Even Conroy is now tweeting the media got it all wrong.

“I didn’t imply it was over. I wrote delay could indicate “she is plotting her next move” & also noted impending film release.”

“Fox headline (”Palin Ends Bus Tour”) didn’t even accurately reflect what was in their own story about my story.”

I don’t know if all Palin guessing this is more funny or pathetic.

Either way, she has everyone running in circles.
Keep it up Sarah!
