NY State Catholic Conference on SSM Passage
NOM ^ | June 24, 2011

Posted on 06/25/2011 9:25:48 AM PDT by NYer

Released immediately after the vote:

The passage by the Legislature of a bill to alter radically and forever humanity’s historic understanding of marriage leaves us deeply disappointed and troubled.

We strongly uphold the Catholic Church’s clear teaching that we always treat our homosexual brothers and sisters with respect, dignity and love. But we just as strongly affirm that marriage is the joining of one man and one woman in a lifelong, loving union that is open to children, ordered for the good of those children and the spouses themselves. This definition cannot change, though we realize that our beliefs about the nature of marriage will continue to be ridiculed, and that some will even now attempt to enact government sanctions against churches and religious organizations that preach these timeless truths.

We worry that both marriage and the family will be undermined by this tragic presumption of government in passing this legislation that attempts to redefine these cornerstones of civilization.

Our society must regain what it appears to have lost – a true understanding of the meaning and the place of marriage, as revealed by God, grounded in nature, and respected by America’s foundational principles.

Make religion illegal. It's much worse than prostitution will ever be.

I see plenty of people willing to shrug this one off with an “After all, we did win in . . . “ various other places. But the culture-change crowd are crowing over this victory for good reason: this is as big a win for them as legal abortion, and they accomplished it in much the same way. Federal judges will soon impose the New York legislature’s will on the rest of the country. I’d give it about 2 years.

Obama will impose it by executive order.

This is a huge victory in for the Marxists in their war on Judao Christian values. They have just about defeated the defenders of natural law, (God law) on all fronts. Some of you might not know why the Marxists must first remove God from society before they can take over. It is really very simple, if God’s law defines good and evil then Marxists are exposed as evil, since murder is evil, homosexual acts are evil, stealing is evil, lying is evil, etc. However if man (Marxists) gets to define good and evil well then anything goes, laws are no longer used as tools to promote goodness they simply become a means to wealth and power. You see Gods power is absolute as are his laws, but mans laws are subjective and can change as quickly as the rulers change.

We have seen what has happened to our schools after we removed God from the school house, now we will see what happens to society now that we have removed God from it. I expect very similar results.

Another part of America has died; NY Republicans are now to the left of Obama. I have more in common with Muslims than I do with NY’s government.

It’s high time the Catholic Church has made clear to it’s people that Catholicism is no longer compatible with America.

“now we will see what happens to society now that we have removed God from it”

We did, in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany; it wasn’t pretty.

You should be troubled. As every American that believes in this timeless Tradition. The Homo Agenda is to destroy the Church. But they needed Legal grounds on which to do so. They now have those grounds, no matter the So-Called Legal Protections that are put in place. The Radical Judges that now sit on the bench will be waiting for these cases to hit their Court. The Protections will be found unjust and overturned. Allowing massive suits that will destroy religious Freedoms as we have always known them. The Slope is no longer simply slippery, we are now off the cliff.

This Catholic leader better be more than just ‘troubled.’ The groundwork has now been laid for the Church’s total destruction.

Doesn't anyone see the irony? Catholics oppose it, Catholics get it passed and sign it into law.

What a world!

It is time for Catholics to move out of New York.

Many high taxed individuals did when they made a punitive tax on the wealthy.

Actually, it is time for prayer and leading a Christ-like life. Our time here is temporary. Sometimes we have to suffer fools and their stupid rules.

I would hope that Church supporters are present with cameras tomorrow to catch and display the doings as the Gay Pride Parade passes St. Pats. Years ago Pat Robertson showed the entire line of march as it passed the cathedral, but it did nor spread past the audience of The 700 Club. With the web, these displays of anger, hatred, and sexual depravation which will occur, could spread virally and create blowback (sarc) on the homosexual and lesbian activist community.

I think it’s time to excommunicate Andrew Cuomo.

I had the honor of singing at a real wedding this morning where I heard the best homily I've ever heard on marriage. The reminder to all of us is that marriage is about loving one another as Christ loves the Church and that the proof of this love is in keeping His commandments. It's powerful and it grows. Why does that seem to be so hard? Oh, right. Man's fallen nature and buying the lies.

It's not marriage. It may be a civil contract union, but unless complimentary parts make a whole, it isn't marriage.

Maybe Bishop Hubbard of Albany can show us a little something by refusing Cuomo Holy Communion at least when he strolls up with his live in girlfriend on his arm. Ya think?

I’m impressed (sort of) with the Bishops of New York. I have no doubt that Archbishop Dolan had a lot to do with this release.

The gate is getting narrower! Pray for the traditional family through the Holy Spirit and pray always for the fallen away (’lost sheep’).
