Media Matters for America is organized as a tax exempt 501(c)3 organization. Under IRS guidelines, they must abide by several rules to maintain this status. Specifically, 501(c)3 organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.
You can read an interesting article on this subject "Is Media Matters Breaking the law in its war' on Fox News?" The article strongly suggests that Media Matters is violating its exemption as an educational foundation by actively participating in partisan political activities. Specifically the IRS application for 501(C)(3) tax-exempt educational foundation status, Section VIII, Question I asks the applicant: "Do you support or oppose candidates in political campaigns in any way?" (Emphasis added).

Ubama and the rats use the IRS for their own purposes. We know that from the Sink-masturbator administration. No way will Ubanga and the rats allow the IRS to do anything adverse to their cronies. Media Faggots is a connected and protected Democrat organization. Sorry.

They don’t say anything most teachers in the public schools wouldn’t in class. Its not a political view its “the truth” and there for required in educating. That last part is sarc..

The problem is that, while MM is clearly and obviously biased and partisan, they do not engage in partisan activity in support or opposition of candidates. The fact that MM considers Fox News to be the de facto head of the GOP does not make FNC a candidate for public office. Much as I'd love to see MM go away, I just don't see them losing their 501(c)(3) status over this.

FOX has enough liberals on staff that they can fight their own damned battles.

Help me out here, is Fox News still owned by News Corp? If so, Fox News is not a political organization, it’s part of a private company.

How is MM bashing Fox News a political issue? Fox News is owned by a corporation and is not a political entity.
To: af_vet_rr
How? I am actually surprised you ask that. Media Matters is well documented as a propaganda arm of the extreme left. Fox News is one of the few large news outlets that remotely offers a view opposite of the one presented on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, and CBS. One source of its funding is George Soros.
They are famous for their hit pieces on every and any subject or person that is part of any opposition to the left. If this isn’t political, what in your opinion is?

In the article you posted, it says "Specifically, 501(c)3 organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. "
Like Conscience of a Conservative said, Fox News is not a political candidate. They aren't even a political organization. While the left does like to claim the GOP either uses Fox News as a media extension or that Fox News is guiding the GOP, attacking Fox News is not attacking any Republican candidate. While I don't like that Fox News does appear to be trying to play up some Republican candidates and playing down others, Fox News does not qualify as a candidate for elective public office.
It's actually amusing when the left claims that Fox News is a part of the GOP or is guiding the GOP, since the parent company of Fox News pushes a lot of sleaze and filth and promotes the homosexual agenda among high school students, which is definitely not a part of the GOP platform.
To: af_vet_rr
It’s not that Fox is playing up one Republican or other. It is that it shows any true conservative or Republican in a positive way. That is why they are a target.

Regardless of why Fox News is the target of their little declared war, it still does not make Fox News a candidate for elected office.
