Bill Mandating Gay History in Schools Goes to Calif. Governor

California lawmakers on Tuesday sent the governor a bill that would make the state the first requiring public schools to include the contributions of gays and lesbians in social studies curriculum.

The bill, passed on a party-line vote, adds lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as well as people with disabilities to the list of groups that schools must include in the lessons. It also would prohibit material that reflects adversely on gays.

Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano of San Francisco says SB48 is crucial because of the bullying that happens to gay students. Republicans called it a well-intentioned but ill-conceived bill and raised concerns that it would indoctrinate children to accept homosexuality.

"This bill will require California schools to present a more accurate and nuanced view of American history in our social science curriculum by recognizing the accomplishments of groups that are not often recognized," said Assembly Speaker John Perez, the first openly gay speaker of the California Assembly.

The bill now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, who has not said whether he would sign it. Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill in 2006.

Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, a Republican from Twin Peaks, said he was offended as a Christian that the bill was being used to promote a "homosexual agenda" in public schools.

think it's one thing to say that we should be tolerant," Donnelly said. "It is something else altogether to say that my children are going to be taught that this lifestyle is good."

California law already requires schools to teach about women, African Americans, Mexican Americans, entrepreneurs, Asian Americans, European Americans, American Indians and labor. The Legislature over the years also has prescribed specific lessons about the Irish potato famine and the Holocaust, among other topics.

Why stop there? How about the contributions of sadomasochists, pedophiles, adulterers, auto-eroticists, and those into bestiality? Heck there are probably a lot more degenerate life style choices we could put on a pedestal.

The day that law would be signed is the day I would take my kids out of public education (if they weren’t out already).

Gay history!

Now chidren, let us discuss ...

... what that little trap door was for in the back of the suits of armor...

... How you’ve heard of the “march on Selma”? We are going to discuss the sashay on Fire Island...

... How the Dykes of Holland REALLY got their name!

... Sir Gallahad’s ‘cute’ friend “Frank”

... Forget Adam and Eve, it was really “Adam and Steve”

Serious question.

When do we get the contributions of the S&M community in school textbooks? If we are going to have the contributions of people recognized based on a sex practice (because let’s face facts... Homosexuality without Anal/Oral sex is just celibacy between really good friends), I demand the contribution of all those with alternative sex practices be recognized equally to homosexuals.

It’s ‘fair’ isn’t it? We can’t ‘discriminate’ can we?

Give you that. I was looking for gays that contributed something substantial.

Too bad they don't teach reading, writing, math, science, or anything else that might actually be USEFUL in the real world. No wonder California's headed straight for disaster. Maybe saying "straight" is considered bullying homosexuals.

Teaching children about something as disgusting as homosexual acts—about lust and narcissism and idolatry is perverted and anyone in public schools that tries to normalize behavior that is created by emotional and/or physical abuse should be convicted of child abuse.

They are trying to pervert the worldview of normal children...make them believe abnormal is normal and undermine the Bible and freedom of religion. It will destroy respect for any Christian parents...mark them as bigots and haters.

This is a breach of the freedom of thought and conscience and the freedom of parents to shape their children’s worldview. You have government forcing a dysfunctional/atheist worldview on young children.

It is evil. It is so unconstitutional on all levels. Get your children out of those sewer schools that are destroying sexual morality in your kids....trying to create the “Brave New World” and an atheist/postmodern paradigm when this country was founded on Natural Law Theory—Modern philosophy and individual freedom—not group think and fascist government schools that believe in NO God and No Moral Absolutes. Our rights come from God and so we go by God’s standards of right and wrong...not some communist Hays, the homosexual who was sodomized as a boy and founded the homosexual movement to destroy the US from within by destroying morality. Very sick!

Absurd...not due to the ethnic groups, but all of this micromanaging by the legislature. Seems like so many mandates that things are going to be completely inflexible for schools.

Why not? No need to teach actual history.

If you teach actual history, that would interfere with the Orwellian rewriting.

Can’t have that.
