Fayyad Shoots for Beggar State

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said Wednesday that the PA's inability to pay its bills and its regular pleas for charitable cash infusions from the international community was not an acceptable argument against PA statehood.

“The crisis does not undermine or cast doubt about our preparedness for the establishment of the state,” Fayyad insisted during his weekly radio address on Voice of Palestine radio. "All states face financial troubles and need the correct procedures and oversight to overcome such problems."

“Civil servants will receive today half of their monthly salaries, and the other half will be paid when cash is available,” he added.

The decision to pay half salaries is a result of the PA's latest crippling financial crisis, which has lasted for almost a year.

“So far, we have received only $331 million out of $970 million [in international donations] we were supposed to receive to cover the budget deficit of this year. Since we could not borrow more from the banks, we were forced to pay half salaries,” he added.

If you stop preventing the sale of goods from Jews and stop criminalizing working or dealing with Jews, you won't need to beg. It's called commerce. You can tax it. Most states do it with their neighbors. Of course, most states are run by serious people.

Right, live off others. Does not sound to me like you have a good tribe there. In any point in human history (except now) you would be conquered and be slaves.

Welcome to looserville.

Why is Gaza a beggar state of non-productivity and the other side of the border is one of the most industrious places on earth?

Wonder what they did with the gazillions of dollars given to them by Europe and America? Some possibilities...

1. Bought weapons, rockets, ammo
2. Squirreled away in Arafat and his cronies bank accounts
3. Paid bribes
4. Made training videos to foment hate and teach how to blow stuff up

What did they spend on building a civilized infrastructure for their people? Probably jack squat. The useful idiots in America and Europe will come running to their aid. Salam Fayyad and his buddies are counting on it. They know the liberals on both continents are dumb as a sack of hammers.

Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. The PA NEVER EVER paid bribes to ANYONE! It’s so much better to receive them from the peon—I mean noble Palestinian People.

They are serious. They would rather starve than make peace. They would rather have nothing than settle for 97% of what they “supposedly” want (because the 3% they want mainly to take it from the Jews, not because it really means a whole lot to them).

As you imply, only Israel can help them. Even if they got a state, they need Israel. They cannot trade with Jordan, Jordan is poor and has nothing to trade. They can barely trade with Egypt and in this case only with Gaza. They need Israel for almost everything - currency, taxation, trade, commerce, jobs and more. They could have a state and shun Israel but it makes no sense. They people they hate are the only ones who can make them prosper- and the Palestinians, if they ever do make sincere peace with Israel, will be the wealthiest non-oil producing Arab nation in the world because of it.

Fayyad and the like are corrupt fools.

Oh I forgot - water, electricity, sewage too.. All provided to them by Israel. They can declare a state unilaterally, but then Israel is free to stop providing taxation, currency, water, electricity, sewage, jobs, etc etc.

What will they do? Start the Palestine National Bank and print their own money? Who will accept it? What will it be backed by? What commerce do they have? What exports? What GDP or GNP? Right now they depend so much on donations, that cannot last forever ESPECIALLY if they become a state unilaterally they should be expected to figure it out on their own and not act like beggars. The world doesn’t need and eventually won’t want another impoverished state, especially one that is impoverished simply because they are intractable. Go beg the Saudis.
