When he took office, the economy was in recession. He made it worse.

This is a sound bite and very effective and very true. Romney isn't flip-flopping, but he does need a sound bite follow up.

The economy is improving despite the best efforts of Obama to hobble the American people.

If pressed further, he should explain that the economy is more than raw numbers. Over regulation, micro management, top down control, and constant changes hurt the economy. The numbers may be better, but the economic environment is worse. Then he can repeat his great sound bite...

You should have written this article. Your comments make much more sense and reflect a position that needs to be better presented. There might be some improvement in the GDP, but it is mostly related to the private sector getting leaner and more productive as a response to the recession, pent up demand and other non-political factors. Obama made it worse than it should be as the recovery should be roaring by now and not simply limping along.
