Fools like that home owner are the reason there are HOA's, etc. Could you imagine trying to sell your house in this climate and you have some yahoo across the street or next to you plant a vegetable garden in the front yard?

If you bothered to live in a good location, and not one propped up by an HOA, then you wouldn't worry about it. Houses in our neighborhood run about $250,000 for 1,200-1,500 square feet, $750,000 gets you 2,800 square feet or so, and a million gets you 3,800 square feet. Plenty of gardens and odd paint jobs all over, and being that I'm in Central Texas and we're in one of the worse droughts ever, 95% of the yards are brown. Houses have no problems selling here.

It's all about the real location on a map and not what color your neighbor's house is painted or whether your neighbor's grass is 3 inches instead of 2 inches tall or whether there even is grass.

(I’ve been associated with HOA’s....they are like little city governments...and SOME members ARE Nazi like)

I've lived on or near military bases as a child and as an adult and you couldn't pay me to live in an area with an HOA. Like a friend says, HOAs are for closet socialists who can't get enough government in their lives. I'll never live in a place where I need to worry about the neighbors reporting me because my grass is 4 inches tall.

I've often wondered why conservatives I know would subject themselves to one more layer of bureaucracy like that where pretend bureaucrats check up on your yard or count the number of cars in your driveway or approve your paint color before you can do anything or keep an eye on the height of your fence.
