(Reuters) - U.S. state and local governments cut thousands of jobs in June, pushing their payrolls down to the lowest in five years, according to Labor Department data released on Friday, and analysts do not expect the losses to end any time soon.
Local governments shed 18,000 jobs and state governments cut 7,000 in June. The level of local government employment -- 14.143 million employees -- is the lowest since June 2006. State government employment is the lowest since August 2006.
"Today's employment report reflects continued belt-tightening at the state and local level and the trend we have previously noted, a trickle-down in budget cuts from the state to the local level," wrote Natalie Cohen, senior analyst at Wells Fargo Securities, in a research note.

Now we’re getting somewhere.
“Bleeding” jobs? What is it when the private sector lays people off by the millions?
Oh yeah. It’s downsizing. Offshoring. Rightsizing. Rebalancing.
Gee, no bias there.
Private Sector increased 57K jobs...Public Sector decreased jobs 39K.
Census Workers were a large number..
[ State and local governments bleeding jobs ]
And the bad news is WHAT?...
*Silver-Lining Ping*
I’m surprised it took this long, but then I never thought the (broke) US gov would give local gov 800 billion plus dollars (Stimulas). Silly me, well the gravy train is off the tracks and in three weeks it will be over the cliff. Then the real “fun” begins.
I have really come to dislike government and the parasites that work for these thousands of little kingdoms...They have totally screwed over America...
Well, let’s look at the “disparate impact” of this bleeding, shall we?
Where are all the “women and minorities hardest hit” sob stories?
Oh, I know, there aren’t any. They’re letting melanin-challenged males go.
Well, look at it this way, the more gummint workers realize they’re not recession-proof, the worse for the great “O”.
How many were employed when Eisenhower was President? That's the starting point. Anything below that is positive.
What if 1/2 of all Fed jobs were ended? That would be a good start.
So they’re down to 2006 levels? Wake me when they get to 1970 levels.
State and Local Governments bleeding PARASITES
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. The stimulus shored up state and local governments. With that waste of money gone and the economy still a mess, the only option for them is to cut payrolls.
Most of these were people who retired or left for other jobs, and the positions weren’t refilled. There really isn’t a lot of “cutting” or “bleeding” going on. It’s just attrition.
They haven't put even a dent in this
The level of local government employment -- 14.143 million employees
Local governments shed 18,000 jobs and state governments cut 7,000 in June
This is really a joke. 18k out of multiple *millions*?
Not only are these thousands of local kingdoms choking off America, most of these kingdoms area nothing more than cash collection centers to line their own pockets. They want your incomes and or assets, and they don't even try to hide it anymore.
If that isn't enough, most of these people on the government tax paid payrolls are some of the most arrogant, deceitful types I've ever had the experience of dealing with.
only in red states?
I am in no way defending government fat, BUT, the US population was 180 million in 1960 and today it is 300 million. So I can see where there might be more need for more state and local employees to deliver legitimate government services, such is issuing drivers’ licenses, building bridges, operating water and sewer utilities, etc
