Amid rising tensions over gas reserves, Israel to submit proposal to UN on where maritime economic border with Lebanon should be over next few days; U.S. endorsed Lebanon's proposal submitted to UN in August.
In the next few days Israel will submit to the United Nations its take on where its maritime economic border with Lebanon should be, as the two countries scramble for gas reserves estimated to be worth billions of dollars.
Israel's position is due to be approved by the cabinet on Sunday; Jerusalem argues that Lebanon's proposal includes major areas belonging to Israel.

Like Brazil, the Obama Regime will direct USEXIM to lend Lebanon a couple billion to drill Leviathan so that we can become their customer.
Redistribution of wealth, and money will go into Hezbollah coffers against Israel.

I've been to Lebanon[ironically I live in Lebanon Tn.]and
harbor no grudge against any of the native Lebanese folks I
met during my nightmare of a tour there.Unfortunately Iran
and Syria hold the puppet strings of govt. there now.
If Lebanon cannot form a stable govt. any profit seen from any petro-exploration will simply help to fund the
demise of both Israel and the U.S. which would lead anyone but BHO to push a solution favoring the Israeli position on
this matter.
Let's not hold our breath waiting on our Dear Leader /s to
do the right thing and let us never forget the Marine barracks attack. I still owe ‘em for that.

Actually it is geology and bathymetry.
You could say bilaterally Israel and Lebanon or multilaterally to include the entire eastern Mediterranean from Turkey down to Egypt and Cypress
No different than in the Arctic: USA, Canada, Denmark(Greenland), and Russia. Or in the Antarctic: Britain, Argentina, and Chile. Or in the South China Sea.
The US established her maritime borders in conjunction with the Magnussen Act in the 1970s.

I feel sure that the Department of State’s offices for Law of the Sea affairs, in conjunction with the Office of the Geographer (which has been calculating international limits in the seas for more than thirty years), has available numerous studies on this boundary. Whether or not the Department of State under Hillary Clinton will see fit to openly publish the studies is another matter.

You are absolutely correct about the data collected going back to Reagan.
But since the US has never ratified LOST, they don't have a seat on the LOST technical committee and have no way of presenting the data.
To: Nachum
Why do they keep saying that the U.S. backs Lebanon or Iran or any other mid east terrorist faction?
The U.S. does not back any of them, it’s the mac, the liar, daddies corrupt administration who backs them AGAINST ISRAEL and the UNITED STATES.

The Shiites control Lebanon these days along with Hezbollah.
The Shiites killed 250 Marines when they bombed the Marine barracks
The Lebanon Shiites are allies of Iran
Those are three good reason we should not be backing Lebanon here. But all bets are off with the commie-Muslim in the White House.
