Obama campaign's staggering haul: $86 million raised for reelection

President Obama's vast campaign operation raked in $86 million for his reelection and for the Democratic Party during the last three months, breaking previous records with a total far greater than those posted by his potential Republican opponents in the 2012 election.

Initially, the Obama campaign had set a goal of raising $60 million. Republican candidates combined are expected to raise less than $35 million this quarter.

The Obama amount points to the advantages of incumbency in fundraising, and to the staggering cost of the coming election, which this year will feature a new, powerful role for independent groups that can raise unlimited sums. This year, those groups could out-raise and outspend the parties and the candidates.

The dollar total for Obama last quarter, announced by his campaign manager in a video message to supporters Wednesday morning, reflects $47 million raised for the Obama for America presidential campaign and an additional $38 million raised jointly with the Democratic National Committee.

In the video Obama campaign manager Jim Messina emphasized the record-breaking number of donors contributing: about 550,000.

"This is a historic number of small-dollar, everyday people," he said, noting that the campaign does not accept funds from lobbyists or political action committees.

The number does shatter previous records, and meets Obama's goal of launching another campaign that involves a large numbers of individuals in all 50 states. Still, the total amount of dollars raised was boosted by a ramped-up effort to court large-dollar donors to joint events with the DNC.

For example, the Los Angeles Times reported recently on a several programs to lure large checks from individual donors. One program, called "Presidential Partners," seeks a two-year commitment in exchange for regular briefings and updates from the campaign. The price of admission: $75,800.

$86M in one month?

By the time this goon runs for re-election, he will have billions, maybe even tens of billions.

Unless God intervenes, the zer0 is invincible.

Geee, I hope a better accounting job is done when it comes to small donations from foreign countries.

btw, I wonder how that investigation is going on the ‘questionable’ foreign donations?

We don’t hear about that, for some reason.

Sure Hope they’re working ‘Fast and Furious’.

Once Sarah Palin announces her candidacy for president she will be able to raise three or four times what Obama can raise.

They are betting on being the Nomenklatura Class when government seizes control of 100 percent of the nation’s wealth and industry.

It’s a quarterly number, not monthly and it’s being spun. His actual haul is 47 million and that’s less than his total in the same quarter in 2007.

How much of it is illegal conduit contributions and/or prohibited foreign contributions? Obama was allowed to get away with fundraising murder last time, while McCain dutifully disclosed his donors, and had to go through an FEC audit anyway. Obama raised over $100 million in online contributions with fraud safety mechanisms deliberately turned off. If the GOP allows this to happen again, they are absolute fools.

WHAT A SURPRISE. When you control the White House, Senate, banks, labor, business, communication, education, transportation, Justice Department, FCC, FDA, IRS, etc., etc., guess who's not going to have a hard time extorting money from all of the above?

My guess is that they believe in one thing and one thing only, what's it it for me. The democrats offer pie in the sky and tell them that Republicans already ate the pie!

When der 0berFuhrer 0bama travels to fundraisers, the vast majority of the travel, support and overhead expenses are picked up by the American taxpayer. When a challenger does the same thing he is on his own. Plus we know from experience that the dims are not above "shaking down" organizations, unions, companies, etc. Who is overseeing 0bama's fundraising - his buddies at the FEC?

It’s called CORRUPTION, folks

Nobody gives out money like this without expecting something in return.

The Obama Administration needs to be investigated (and prosecuted) under the RICO statutes.

2 points:

Unless Obama is going to buy this election, his record should do him in.

The reason the Repubs haven’t garnered as much is because the donors don’t like the current field and are waiting.

I didn’t state my point very well. I should have said that with control over so much of our nation and our lives, this President can extort money out of nearly anyone who has to deal with any governmental agency.

They are working on it as hard as they are on challenging his "natural born" status.
