Herman Cain: Tennessee mosque builders want Sharia law
Daily Caller ^ | 7/17/11 | Alex Pappas

Posted on 07/17/2011 8:33:38 AM PDT by markomalley

Herman Cain said he sides with the opponents of the construction of a mosque in Tennessee because he fears the Muslims building the mosque have bad intentions and want to implement Sharia law.

“Our constitution guarantees separation of church and state,” said Cain, a contender for the 2012 presidential nomination. “Islam combines church and state. They are using the church part of our First Amendment to infuse their mosque in the community and people in the community don’t like it. They disagree with it. Sharia law is what they are trying to infuse.”

The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO made the comments while on Fox News Sunday. Residents in Murfreesboro have been protesting the building of the worship center planned by the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro. Cain says he has the residents’ back.

Moderator Chris Wallace asked Cain if his skepticism of Muslims in the country is similar to the prejudice he faced growing up as a black man.

“I tell them that is absolutely not true,” Cain said. “Because it’s absolutely totally different … I am willing to take a harder look at people that might be terrorists. That’s what I’m saying.”

He added: “I know that there is a peaceful group of Muslims in this country.” (Herman Cain signs up for Sunday morning grilling)

Wallace asked him if it’s okay for any community to say we don’t want a mosque in our community.

“They could say that … Let’s go back to the fundamental issue that the people are basically saying that they are objecting to. They are objecting to the fact that Islam is both a religion and a set of laws, Sharia law,” Cain said.

“That is the difference between any one of our other traditional religions where it’s just about religious purposes. The people in the community know best. And I happen to side with the people in the community.”

I believe the mainstream media thinks that this will deep-six Cain’s run for President. Again, they have no clue how the American public feels about this issue and I think Herman Cain is closer to the American public than the LSM.

Herman Cain is totally right. Islam is not really a religion anyway and we all need to start standing up and call it a political ideology which is what it is and not protected by freedom of religion.

“Our constitution guarantees separation of church and state,”

Why accept the premise to make the arguement against their Sharia edicts? All it says is that the FEDERAL government shall not establish a national religion, such as the Church of England, and shall not infringe of the free exercise thereof.

It says nothing about the states not being able to have a state recognized religion. As a matter of fact, many states did have a state sponsored religion and if people in that state did not like it, then they were free to move elsewhere.

Inability to recognize Islam for what it truly is will be the proverbial nail in the coffin for America. Islam is not just a religion, it is a "way of life", a sociopolitical ideology that is enshrined and cloaked in nothing more than a facade of religion.

Anyone and everyone who has studied Islam understands this very clearly. Simply ask Muslims themselves and they will accede to this fact, that Islam is much more than a religion.

I'm amazed and to be honest with you, many Islamic scholars overseas are amazed as well at how fast Islam is progressing in the United States and Europe.

There is no good that will come from this - none.

You are so right. Mr. Cain is an absolute breath of fresh air when he speaks. No political correctness, which I've said for years, will be the death of this country. He tells it like it is...a real “straight talker”, and how refreshing is that. Another real big plus....this man is not beholding to anyone in the political gamesmanship that seems to corrupt every one in Washington, D.C. He's got a great record in understanding and dealing with financial challenges, he loves our country and has overcome many obstacles in his successful life. If you havn’t done so, I urge you to find out more about this man....most importantly , remember to do your own homework before you go to vote next year in Nov.

the problem with the assinine media is they still think they OWN the airways. Wrong! There are more networks out there from which to find out truth or lies and we don’t have to wait till 5pm to hear a story. By the time 5pm rolls around...the story is OLD NEWS.
Last week chris asked Bachman if she was a flake. Shame chris...you could have asked her what her response would be to that attack but you didn’t...you chose to ask her if she was a flake. This week...you try and hammer Candidate Cain when he explained over and over about Religion and politics. Me thinketh Chris is the REAL FLAKE.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Chris couldn’t understand that 40% spending cuts isn’t across the board. Some 60%, some 100%, some Zero%.
Cain seems to understand the issues and I’m buying into his problem solving approach. Chris knew he didn’t have the upper hand with this interview.

Amen. This is a business man and a man of thinking and common sense. He should be taken seriously.

Also, the debate between Jordan and van rollin was good too. Jordan ran all over that guy. The one thing I would have to say to van rolling before the debate began was:

“keep your hand to yourself. Do NOT reach over to touch my sleeve or my arm! Stay in your own space!!!!

Cain is a candidate for President of the US. If you and Cain think Sharia law is America’s biggest problem then join him in the pizza business.

I don’t see him calling Sharia America’s biggest problem in this article and why didn’t you answer my question? You must not have any major accomplishments. I bet you work at Wal-Mart as a career employee.

I’m not running for President. Cain choose to talk about Sharia law so it was important to him and a waste of time for voters who think other matters are important for America.
