My joke may have been in poor taste. In Illinois, when a senate seat had to be suddenly filled, the governor declared it a "golden opportunity" and starting seeking sweet deals for himself. He got into trouble for that.
The situation in ND is quite different. Still, it amused me to conflate the two incidents. Politics is often a dirty business.
