Saw on the news tonight that Perry had said he would not take the VP slot on a ticket; that he would prefer remaining the Texas Governor.

Palin also said many months ago that she would not ever accept second place on a ticket.

Polls like this that are offered by broadcast and cable news channels are non-scientific and stupid.

She would NOT be "handled" as she was in '08!

Are you that ...........oh hell, words fail me, to believe that she would put up with that kind of garbage, by people SHE chooses and WHY would she choose people who were out to get her in the first place? Good grief.............do you even realize what you are saying?

And FYI................she's going to run!

But, on the off chance she doesn't, her political career is over!

Her book writing days are over!

She had one show and that's long over, never to be repeated!

Her fees for speeches are over!

Her days of being influential are over!

But all of the above is actually what you actually desire, isn't it? Just admit it.......................

He said he isn’t running to show that he’s going all in.

I’m not trying to guess the odds.

Reagan did the same thing as Ron Paul did. They aren’t identical records. Similar.

Reagan ran in
1968 - minimal effect
1976 - more effect
1980 - won

Paul ran in
1988 - minimal effect
2008 - more effect
2012 - tbd

I’m not arguing that this chart proves Ron Paul will win. I’m not arguing that Reagans effect in 1976 wasn’t bigger than Paul’s in 2008, making him closer.

I’m saying that the tea party will pick a candidate, the tea party is mighty, and Ron Paul might be that candidate.

Under this scenario, Palin isn’t running. Palin would certainly get substantial tea party support. If Palin is running, Paul attacks everyone but Palin, and sees how everything works out. Could have Palin and Paul at 1 and 2 with an establishment candidate at 3.

It is VERY early days and nobody, not a single person alive, knows what is going to happen, so yes, we all must wait and see how this all plays out.

OTOH, I do believe that people's minds can be changed, re Palin. And Perry might not throw his hat into the ring.

JMO, but I believe Perry will appeal to blue dog Dems, Indies and TEA partiers, as well as the old GOP fogies.

Palin has the TEA partiers, some Indies and some GOP fogies, but there are way too many across the country that have a visceral hatred of her and will not vote for her in spite of how bad off they are under Obama’s regime.

I really like Palin and think she would be a great POTUS, but there are too many women who don’t like her and the Dems rip her apart at every opportunity.

The Ames Straw Poll is seen as the single most important indicator of strength prior to the Iowa Caucuses. Only Iowans can vote in the Iowa Caucuses. And the numbers are large, 5000 or so for a winner, could be more than that. Much more important than one of these CPAC or SRLC straw polls where anyone can vote, and lots of diehard supporters can come from all over.

The Ron Paul campaign is going to try to get as many votes as they can from Iowans. As are the other candidates. It’s not an easy task. We’ll see how it goes.

Last time, Ron Paul finished 5th. Do you think he’ll do better, worse, or the same as last time?

Sarah Palin has by far more support in the base than anyone else running.Just wait till she announces and watch the ground swell occur.

Profound observation—I will add that if both Palin and Perry follow Free Republic and believe it accurately represents conservative American thinking, Palin definitely WILL announce and Perry certainly won't.

There are many reasons that Tea Partiers will NOT support Perry.

Perry and the Bushes have had a parting of ways, which takes some of the establishment away from him.

There are hardly any Blue Dogs out there and they didn't go all out for Bush, so they will not go all out for Perry either.

Stop with the old canard :I LOVE PALIN, BUT SHE CAN'T WIN", in any form, meme. If you LOVE Palin, then get out there and change hearts and minds, damn it!

What is wrong with Kasich? It seems like he’s been around a long time. I remember him in a Republican Presidential Debate years and years ago.

I’m not sure about Rubio.

So, you'd take your ball and go and let Obama win? How pathetic is that?

No, pathetic is taking my original post:

If Perry were somehow to stumble into the General Election because of the Open Primaries on the GOP side, then he would fumble badly in the General Election as the conservative GOP base and small 'l' libertarians and those concerned about Illegal Immigration would desert him.

And somehow twisting into some infantile post like:

So, you'd take your ball and go and let Obama win? How pathetic is that?

Now that is pathetic!

To: RINOs suck

Because the MSM will continually compare him to George W. Bush, and most voters, by the end of his presidency, couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

GOD give me strength...........................

Look you, get it through your thick skull.......RON PAUL ISN'T GOING TO WIN A SINGLE GOP PRIMARY, NEITHER WILL HE EVER BE PRESIDENT OR VEEP!

I can't be clearer than the above. And coming in a lousy 5th, means NOTHING!

That straw poll means less than NOTHING, when it comes to anything much at all; especially Ron Paul.
