That is exactly what happens, and in that sequence.

I just checked it and 1.9 percent of Texas is Federal land.

You are taxed to death in Pennsylvania, any way you look at it. You have been conditioned to lay on down roll over and accept it and that's what is sad. I came to Ak 20 years back from Crawford Co , Pa. Right off the bat, I saw a direct savings of 15K for my family in state & local taxes.

You have hundreds of taxes piled on, all kinds of costs like sewerage & water costs that you can't get out from under with a septic tank & well. You have tons of revenue schemes that dole out licenses & permits. You have a system in place that it all feeds on itself and continues to grow exponentially. My friends back there cry the blues, but are too scared & controlled to take the chance and get out from under it all.

Ya know what shocked me? When I came to Alaska, people were complaining about state govt spending too much, and they didn't pay any taxes anyway. It left me scratching my head in amazement. Oil does fund state govt up here, but it's not how much you make, it's how much you spend that matters.

Honestly, I feel sorry for Pennsylvania, it's only going to get worse with time and now since the govt has you residents convinced how under taxed you all are;;;; that should speed up some.

Wow! I guess that explains why it takes two days to get through Texas. lol. That is a huge state when you can have these huge bases and still have only have 1.9 percent federal land. God Bless Texas!!!!!!

Lots of Vietnamese in TX, LA ... all along the Gulf Coast really.

Good people, hard workers, famiy oriented, don’t cause trouble (I haven’t heard of Vietnamese gangs for example).

I don’t think you’ll find many people in these areas who will question your ability to speak English or orgin.

You’re right - - Pennsylvania isn’t as bad as the survey makes it out to be. Part of it may be that cities like Philadelphia have additional sales and business taxes that are through the roof.

They complain about no opera, no symphony, no rapid transit?

These are liberals who have moved to your state because of a job. If the opera and symphony ended tomorrow I wouldn’t notice. I would notice the end of rapid transit because of the traffic jams. I would not miss the smell, cost and union hackarama of the rapid transit.

The free concerts suck. Those of us who pay taxes in this state receive no handouts (wrong color, race, gender, religion)

Fees. Example. My property tax use to pay for school buses, high school sports and trash pick-up. Those things are all funded with user fees now. And my taxes still go up.

The sad thing is that most Western States have been gobbled up by the Feds. I am sure when they joined the Union they didn’t agree on giving up 30 to 70 percent of their state to the Federal Government.

I didn't say all do, I said many do.

You sound as if you would be a an assett to any Red State.

>The third thing they do is start demanding the same taxpayer paid Nanny-State services, handouts and freebies they were accustomed to “back home”.

Then they vote for high tax liberals and start recreating the oppressive, high tax, liberal culture they left behind.

Out west they call it Californication.<

Absolutely true.

That’s why they call liberalism a disease. Actually it’s a plague. They are a just a bunch of ungrateful idiots they could not grasp the conservative mindset of “leave me alone, government”.

Ya know, someday hundreds of years from now, Alaska will run out of oil & resources and will be taxed to death too. If that day were today, it still wouldn't matter to me; I'd just figure ways around it like people probably do back east.

You can't put a price on the comparison in lifestyles from Pennsylvania & rural Alaska; and I ain't leaving my Shan gri la over taxes or politics or the feds. I'll just keep eating fresh kings, wait for the caribou to show up in a few weeks, and live out of the garden all summer long. My kids are raised in UAF & UAA, wife and I content, and I'm thinking more about where I'm going to kill my moose this fall than anything else right now; life is good.

Polk is rated quite highly and considered a strong President by most historians. Maybe you’re thinking of Franklin Pierce.

Lower state taxes are beneficial no question. However, local taxes cab be a deal killer, you need to know what impact they will have in order to make a true assessment.
