Deobandi Islam is a form of Salafi Sunni Islam very close to Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia. It is inherently intolerant, aggressive, expansionist and violent. It gave birth to the Taliban with Saudi money.

Lashkar e Taiba is a Deobandi Muslim terrorist organization. They pulled off the Mumbai attacks.

Yup. They’re real bad.

I don’t understand why the seminary voted in a reformist in the 1st place, if they didn’t really want to be reformed.

Having a ‘reformist’ at the helm helps to get acceptance. Even the average Muslim would want his kids to get a modern education at these places. Besides having a reputation of being hardline will lead to political trouble which would affect subsidies from the government.
