Despite persistent questioning from Chris Wallace, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner refused to acknowledge what his plans were just in case the debt ceiling is not raised before August 2nd. Insisting that his plan was only to get Congress to raise the debt ceiling, Geithner seemed to demonstrate just how fearful he is of what might happen by hesitating to even discuss the possibility of any contingency plan.
Continuing to sound the alarm, Geithner warned Wallace, “we do not have the ability, Chris, to protect the American people from the consequences of Congress not” raising the debt ceiling. And he reiterated that as the country writes 80 millions checks a month, “there are millions and millions of Americans that depend on those checks coming on time.”

He probably doesn’t know. Obama hasn’t told him whether he’ll cut the important payments first (debt, military, pensions) or suspend the EPA and the Department of Education. Obama also hasn’t told him if he’ll invoke Abraham Lincoln and say the 14th Amendment gives him the power to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling and authorize whatever borrowing he wants (or more accurately, that the pre-2010 Democratic Congress authorized).

Timmy boy Geithner is prime example why liberals should never be in charge of anything.
So we have to raise the debt ceiling because I’d we don’t there will be catastrophe. But when asked what that might be and what is the game plan, Geithner refuses to answer.
I think what congress should do is call Geithner and whoever is left of obama’s finance team up to capital hill to testify what will and what won’t get paid on august 3.
It’s funny how when he mentions Congress that the names he uses are “Speaker Boehner and Senator McConnell. Somehow he doesn’t think that Senator Reid or President Obama (2 of 3 Federal branches) are worth mentioning.
Until today I was successful in avoiding hearing that POS open his mouth on TV. For some reason I decided to listen to the little punk on the replay of FNS earlier, I was shocked at how much the little turd just sat there and LIED and LIED and LIED. It was disgusting, and he also speaks like a two-bit punk. Amazing how far we have fallen.
It’s a crisis of epic proportions, but you don’t have to worry your pretty little head about it.
Nancy Pelosi would say, “We have to raise the debt ceiling so we know what won’t happen.”
The government would have to prioritize and decide what should be paid for and what should not. They'd have to clean up the inefficiencies, waste, and theft. And they'd have to decide if the NEA, PBS, ... a bridge to no where and all of the pork is more important than other social programs.

I suppose that doing so would shine light on the fact that debt service, SS, MC, military pay are covered.
IMO we need to pass a bill [in the House anyway] that requires debt service, SS, MC, and military pay are first.
Maybe we just need a resolution in both chambers. But we need sumpin’. Udderwise if it happens they short the checks and blame Rs. When 45% of gov’t is cut, it won’t be pretty. Putting zero in charge would ensure that the ugliness is maximized.
If that works we could do the same thing with the Highway Department.
