This past weekend, a former mayor had his business vandalized and another community leader got beat up in Center City Park.
"One of the teenagers came up from behind and just punched me in the back and kicked me and knocked me to the floor. Then, he just continued to kick me, punch me, step on me. People were screaming," Mitchel Sommers, executive director of the Community Theatre of Greensboro said.
The swarm came from nowhere and the beating lasted seconds.
"Within a minute, I'd say, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds...I'm not being dramatic...hundreds of young people...just came descending upon this area," he said. "There were so many young people. I would say all the way from across Elm Street all the way to the park. You couldn't even get out of the swarm of young people."

This is not good.One of these times it will lead to a shooting, and then there will be shoot outs happening.
Large riot squads needed, surround them and arrest them
all and then charge them with disorderly conduct, assembly without a permit etc.Nail those who beat people and give them some jail time. WHy treat them with kid goves? That just encourages them.
Time to get out the rubber bullets. Mob mentallity among kids has reached a new level. They’re violent and stupid and think they’re entitled to be so.
A feral lynch mob linked up by cell phones and so called social media. If the economy really collapses they could be the new Zombie hordes swarming into houses, neighborhoods and developments perceived (rumored) as having food and stuff
Surprised that it took this long for a sinister use of modern technology to appear. Shoot, with modern tools anyone good or bad can organize flashmobs and it doesn’t even matter if you jam cellphones inside your place, they are called together from outside. Infiltrate these bastard mobs and bring maxwell’s silver hammer down upon them.
Of course in some future dystopia there could be anti flash mob mobs, seeking to ambush or at least mislead flash mobs.
I’ve read in comments elsewhere that “community organizers” have been observed at these events, apparently coordinating them. If this is true, the motivation is almost certainly to get some of these kiddies shot, so we can have another “days of rage”, “long hot summer”, etc.
The Obama Comunity Organizers are hard at work. Wait for the summer of 2012.It will get very bad in some places.
As long as cell providers are private, they don’t necessarily have to abide by the same restrictions that the constitution puts on the government. There could well be pressure for the providers to suppress “flashy” messaging behavior. This might dampen the silly prank mobs along with the criminal mobs, but would inconvenience normal users not at all.

It’s prolly already against Facebook terms of service to do such things. As if mobs care, because there are so many more mobs than there are Facebook administrators and hours in the day. This is going to force technical kiboshes if it is not to become epidemic in the new dystopia.
Sommers wants to be part of the solution.
“It’s not going to scare me from coming downtown. It’s going to motivate me to find other ways to get people engaged and thinking differently than the way they were thinking that night,” Sommers said.
