SALEM, IN (WAVE) – A police officer is facing drunk driving charges in Washington County, Indiana and the arresting officers say he was carrying a message about drug abuse education at the time.
Not only a police officer, but according to the Seymour Police Department website, he is the School Resource Officer, responsible for seven schools, acting as a mentor and providing students with a role model. It even states that he conducts lectures on narcotics and alcohol and their effects on driving.

Witnesses say when Newcomb was taken from the scene, he was not in handcuffs and was a passenger in the front of a police car, not the back.
Brother cops protecting one of their own.
He sure looks like his brother cops “protected” the hell out of him ;)
Looks like a seatbelt injury subsequent to a collision.
Simple situation. He ought to get the max.
School Resource Officer... mentoring children?!! Some of our Middle Schools and our high schools have police officers in them. Believe me, they aren’t there to do any “mentoring”.
Eyewitness News also called the Seymour Police Department and left a message for the chief, asking about Officer Newcomb’s status with the department. We never heard back.
I am sure it is paid leave until they a jury or judge decides guilt or not? Or, he will get some “treatment for his addiction” and get a slap on the wrist.
Or the original files are lost, the police video has an episode of American Idol recorded over it and the arresting officer takes a long vacation and is unable to testify. Case dismissed.

No handcuffs and a front seat escort is BS.
After what happened to Brasard in Indy, any cop taking care of their own should be fired, tried and imprisoned.
