As we look back on the horrors of the dictatorships and autocracies of the past, one particular question consistently arises; how was it possible for the common men of these eras to NOT notice what was happening around them? How could they have stood as statues unaware or uncaring as their cultures were overrun by fascism, communism, collectivism, and elitism? Of course, we have the advantage of hindsight, and are able to research and examine the misdeeds of the past at our leisure. Unfortunately, such hindsight does not necessarily shield us from the long cast shadow of tyranny in our own day. For that, the increasingly uncommon gift of foresight is required.

Don’t forget the “Do as I say, not as I do” clause that seems to be written into every law over the past few decades.
I saw this at Zero Hedge yesterday, it is good to see it here.
But, I bet it won’t get more than twenty posts.
Most of the nation is fast asleep.

Great Post. Good info to pass on to others.

Oh, I know lots are prepping and getting prepared.
But more would rather not and ignore much more than they should. That is why this country is in the bad shape it is in.
There are plenty who ignore the TSA, the police killing citizens without fear, and the gutting of property rights because they think it is just about deadbeats.
It is just I have noticed that it appears good solid threads die while silly threads go on forever here.
I hope to be wrong on this one, eh? ;)
Here’s one BTTT! :0)
number 12
Looks like we’ve got all points covered...
Curious. I do notice the Naomi Wolf porn thread went quite long. It seems the really important things get short attention even here at FR.
The silly threads let people blow off some steam. Most Freepers are on the same page about how critical the times are.
As a member of the United States military, I carry a copy of the United States Constitution in my uniform pocket. I pull it our from time to time and read a little of it. I believe I’ve read the entire document at least five times so far. I for one will not obey any orders that are contrary to the Constitution.
I most certainly don’t mean the Friday silly threads!
Of course people need to blow off steam.
It is just an observations the financial threads an other topics of more substance like this one here get short changed.
* * * The prevalence of apathy and ignorance sets the stage for the slow and highly deliberate process of centralization. Once dishonest governments accomplish an atmosphere of inaction and condition a sense of frailty within the citizenry, the sky is truly the limit. However, a murderous power-mongers day is never quite done. In my recent article The Essential Rules of Liberty we explored the fundamentally unassailable actions and mental preparations required to ensure the continuance of a free society. In this article, lets examine the frequently wielded tools of tyrants in their invariably insane quests for total control * * ** * * All disasters, all violent crimes, all the ills of the world, are hoisted upon the shoulders of activist groups and political rivals. They are falsely associated with fringe elements already disliked by society (racists, terrorists, etc).
A bogus consensus is created through puppet media in an attempt to make the public believe that everyone else must have the same exact views, and those who express contrary positions must be crazy, or extremist. Events are even engineered by the corrupt system and pinned on those demanding transparency and liberty. The goal is to drive anti-totalitarian organizations into self censorship. That is to say, instead of silencing them directly, the state causes activists to silence themselves. * * *
This is precisely why the RHINOS in Congress are so dangerous. They give the 'great anointed leader' an opposition group of moderate shills to spout compromising words and phrases. In many ways wimpy idiots like John McCain are far more dangerous than Obama.
As I have said many times here on FR -- we have been taken over by elites who follow their own agenda. Our famous two party system is fake. Just like our elections are mostly fake today with voting machines stealing votes as easy as substituting ones for zeros.
Everything political is a stage play for the unwashed masses.
I especially love this sentence, sums it up nicely:
The goal is to drive anti-totalitarian organizations into self censorship.
Isn't that what the PC police have been working on since the 60's????
Isn't that what is going on with the TEA parties today??
And McRino is a perfect example of the silly PCness of our age. Turncoat McRino, yep, didn't meet a conservative principle he actually follow.
Like freedom of speech!!!!
