Even so, anyone reading between the lines should have noticed his enmity: like Hasan before him, who made no secret of his hatred for infidels in statements in front of classmates, Abdo also made anti-American remarks in class. Why would any rational person be tolerant of and nondiscriminatory toward any Moslim? Even if they say they agree with American principles, how does one know whether or not they are lying?

You probably could get a clue from their behavior

Just play it safe and assume they are lying because you will probably be right.

Even if they say they agree with American principles, how does one know whether or not they are lying? Yeah, that was the major problem I had with the 'takiya' principles that they inscribe in their (un)holy books...
How can you possibly know that they are sincere when their books tell them to lie their collective asses off if it will further their great cause?
They really might be sincere - but we can't know. Its impossible to know.
A heckuva Catch-22.
I prefer the Book written by God.
HE doesn't approve of deception -- unlike the Father of Lies (the ghost-writer of the koran).
Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
